Son Thuy commune is about 50km from the center of Hoa Binh city, and 25km from the center of Mai Chau district. Many people choose Ba Khan as a stopover because this place has a wild beauty, nestled between the mountains and the lake of Hoa Binh, creating a charming landscape, as beautiful as a watercolor painting.
In winter, Ba Khan is often covered with dense fog, making many people think of the beautiful Sapa town of Lao Cai. On sunny days, the sky is clear, “dyeing" the mountains and lake beds blue. Due to topographical conditions and geographical location, the climate in Ba Khan has the characteristics of 4 seasons in one day. Therefore, many tourists choose to come to Ba Khan to relax and recover. However, Ba Khan is also suitable for the type of discovery, experience, and understanding of the cultural identity of the indigenous people. If you are an active person, you will choose to walk or cycle around the hamlets of Khan Thuong, Khan Ha, and Khan Ho; in which, Khan Ha is the most attractive.
Following a small zigzag path running under bamboo bushes, leaning in the sun, visitors can see with their own eyes the typical Muong stilt houses hidden behind green corn fields or orchards full of fruit. After sightseeing around the village, visitors will come to Tay hill – a bowl-shaped hill located at the end of the village. The road to the top of the hill is only about 1km but quite steep. In return, up to the place is a poetic scene like a forgotten paradise.
From here, visitors can take in the scenery of Hoa Binh lake bed as beautiful as a watercolor painting. The mountains rising in the middle of the immense water make people think of small dragons bending and diving. The overlapping mountain ranges lined up in layers far and near, dyeing themselves deep purple in the afternoon sun. The sun let go of the last drops on the reed, shining a golden color full of anxiety. Lau is a “specialty", creating a poetic and charming scene typical of Hoa Binh’s mountains and forests.
From the hill, looking out into the distance, visitors will think of Ha Long Bay of Quang Ninh by the magnificent view; or the poetic, romantic like standing on Vong Canh hill looking down on the Perfume River (Thua Thien Hue). But in the end, visitors will find that the beauty of Ba Khan is still unique with unique scenes nowhere else.
