Luc Yen gem market was formed in the years 89 – 90, at the time when the country entered the renovation process. The market is about 10km east of National Highway 70 and about 60km north of Yen Bai city

Luc Yen Gem Market meets at a pretty place located at the corner of a shimmering lake in Yen The Town. The market only meets for a period of a few hours every morning. Depending on the season and weather, the market takes place sooner or later, from 6:30 a.m. sellers start to come to the market. They slowly clear the goods, no tents, fancy counters, but simply a small corner, consisting of three or forty stalls, each stall has a small wooden table, on which are displayed all kinds of precious stones. The sellers are all women, most of which have been attached to this market since its inception. Gemstone products in Luc Yen market are quite diverse in price and design. There are also those that have been crafted with beautiful shapes to make rings, pendants, paintings; Some of the stones are still in their original rough condition, unpolished, and have just been treated from gem quarries. But in any form, the goods sold at this market are shimmering.

Luc Yen gem market has a very unique feature, called a market, but the scene of buying and selling at Luc Yen gem market is not a “hammer market" at all. Customers can buy whatever they want to buy, can freely see any type, can pay the price, if they don’t like it, go to another one without being grumbled or annoyed. Sellers, buyers, everyone is gentle and comfortable, absolutely no fighting or pulling. The market sells such valuable gems, but theft is rare. Because most people, including sellers or buyers here, have already met each other. If a stranger enters, they will know immediately and take precautions. Therefore, trading here is very safe.

Great value for money with 4 stars hotel accommodation for 4 couples. The tour guide has been very helpful and brought us to amazing places in Sapa.
