Departure from Hanoi
Leave Hanoi city centre and drive westward to the peaceful countryside on the outskirts of the capital. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes (17 km), offering a relaxing escape from the busy streets of Hanoi.
Upon arrival, meet your friendly local host and begin your experience with a visit to a traditional countryside market dating back to the Le King Dynasty. This is one of the most famous local markets in the region, where villagers from surrounding communities gather to trade goods and meet one another.
On market days, the atmosphere becomes lively and colourful. Local people bring dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, ducks, bamboo baskets, and various handmade products for sale. Under the shade of ancient trees, you will witness authentic rural life and traditional customs. Visitors can also see elderly women chewing betel and areca nut while local blacksmiths work beside their glowing braziers.
Next to the market are beautiful vegetable gardens and fruit farms. Take a relaxing walk through the countryside while discovering fields filled with cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, green peas, snake beans, sweet corn, and many other seasonal vegetables. Fruit gardens with oranges, pomelos, papayas, and tropical fruits also create a charming rural landscape.
You may have the opportunity to join local farmers working in the fields and experience authentic farming activities. Depending on the season, you can help with soil preparation, sowing seeds, watering vegetables, harvesting crops, or other daily gardening tasks. This is also a wonderful chance to learn about local cultivation techniques and traditional village lifestyles directly from experienced farmers.
After the farming experience, continue to a local family home for a hands-on Vietnamese cooking class. Together with your host, prepare delicious traditional dishes using fresh vegetables and ingredients collected from the garden.
You will also learn how to make traditional Vietnamese cakes and enjoy meaningful conversations about Vietnamese family customs, culture, and daily life. During the meal, the host family will warmly offer complimentary tea and local rice wine.
