Architectural Highlights for an Afternoon Tour of Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City
During our Afternoon Tour of Ho Chi Minh City, you will come across iconic buildings, that make up or shape the city’s unique character; Independence Palace, is a modernist architectural masterpiece, with subtle Vietnamese design elements, symbolizing the resilience of the nation. The Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon is evidence left by the French in their neo-Romanesque architectural influence. More evidence of French intervention: ground designed by Gustave Eiffel, who happened to come up with a building combining both Vietnamese and European styles, placing it accurately in time and tradition.
Historical Significance
Each site on the Afternoon Tour of Ho Chi Minh City is steeped in history. The Independence Palace is where the Vietnam War concluded with the iconic image of the tanks invading its gates in 1975. The Notre-Dame Cathedral remains a reminder of the cultural impact suffered during French colonial times. Be it the Central Post Office, the indomitable will of the Vietnamese shows that no difficulty can shake it.

Step-by-Step Exploration: The Afternoon Tour of Ho Chi Minh City
1:00 PM – Meeting Point & Introduction
We start our Afternoon Tour of Ho Chi Minh City at a centrally located meeting point in District 1. At this point, our affable guide will welcome you and brief you on the exciting journey ahead. This introduction will allow you to meet fellow travelers and acknowledge the importance of the sites we’ll be heading to. It’s the most perfect inception to a rotated day of history, culture, and discovery.
Independence Palace is the first historical landmark: dramatically important at the time of the Vietnamese War, the modernist architecture from the ’60s of the building might also resemble the post-independence aspirations of Vietnam. Moving through the President’s Office, the War Command Room, and the other major facilities, the visitor is regaled with numerous stories of occurrences here, the dramatic fall of Saigon in 1975 not being an exception. This tour covers in the highest detail all the aspects of the Vietnam War history, so it is undoubtedly the crown of the program Afternoon Tour of Ho Chi Minh City.
2:00 PM – Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon
Next on the list is Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon. Built with French inspiration during colonization in 1877–1880, it constitutes a landmark in the Saigoneer skyline with its symmetrical twin bell towers and red-brick façade, imported piece by piece from France. Inside, beyond a resemblance to the Notre Dame in Paris from its earthquake column to columns within, one can find beautiful stained-glass windows and a peaceful ambiance. Our guide will explain how Catholicism in Vietnam was, shedding light on the cultural impact of French colonization. This pit stop is such a perfect blend of history and architecture that any tour in Ho Chi Minh cannot simply skip.
2:45 PM – Saigon Central Post Office
Later on, a short walk from the cathedral brings us to the Saigon Central Post Office yet another masterpiece designed by Gustave Eiffel. This combines European design and Vietnamese touches perfectly. The grand arched windows and the intricate detail of the ironwork throughout the building delight visitors. An enormous portrait of Ho Chi Minh looks over the main hall, reflecting the stature of Vietnam’s connection to its revolutionary leader. Our guides will distinguishedly explain to you the history of the post office and how it was so significant during the colonial and neo-colonial eras of Vietnam. This attraction, without a doubt, is part and parcel of the Afternoon Tour of Ho Chi Minh City comprising a tale to tell about the colonial past of this city.
Saigon Central Post Office
3:30 PM – Ho Chi Minh City Hall
Our last visit to the historical sites is at the Ho Chi Minh City Hall, which was built gloriously between 1898 and 1909. The inside is not accessible, of course, but one indeed does not have to venture inside to have a hard look at its anticipator entrance. This is the beautifully kept and lit City Hall where the pulse of city administration never seizes. Our guide will be talking to you regarding its historical importance and present role as the new governing body of Ho Chi Minh City, and thereby finish this segment of the Afternoon Tour of Ho Chi Minh City, to achieve a greater appreciation of the inheritance of the city.
4:00 PM – Conclusion and Return
As our tour comes to a close, will get together for a final reflection on today’s experiences. Our guide will summarize the highlights of the day and answer any lingering questions. Whether you begin or end in another location in the city, you can count on us for a seamless end to your adventure. This Afternoon Tour of Ho Chi Minh City took you through history, architecture, and culture, giving you lasting impressions of the unique charm that is Saigon. Thanks and hopefully see you on one of our many tours in Ho Chi Minh City!

Day 02
HO CHI MINH CITY TOUR AND CU CHI TUNNELS
Your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel. We will visit the following places of interest:
The Reunification Palace: Here on April 30th, 1975 the Vietnam War officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was, at the time the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam.
War Remnants Museum: Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this is a poignant display of the futility of war. Some of the black and white photography in the ‘Requiem’ exhibit is particularly touching, dedicated to both foreign and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who perished during the conflict. The courtyard outside contains the spoils of war, namely rusting jets, tanks and cannons captured from the American military machine.
Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office: Built between 1877 and 1883 this is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. Remarkably every stone used in its creation was shipped from France to Vietnam. Her two 40m towers, topped with iron spires dominate the city’s skyline. The Old Post Office is another example of French colonial architecture and is also the country’s largest post office.
Jade Emperor Pagoda: Building in 1909 in honor of the supreme Taoist god, this is one of the most spectacularly atmospheric temples in HCMC, stuffed with statues of phantasmal divinities and grotesque heroes. The pungent smoke of incense fills the air, obscuring the exquisite woodcarvings.
Cu Chi Tunnels: Watch a short introductory video showing how they were constructed, then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels. Also, on display are various mantraps, the remains of an American tank and numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. For those interested there’s even the opportunity to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range
