Exploring Tang Chon Cave in Danang

The Main Chambers and Their Significance

Welcome to the core parts of the Tang Chon Cave in Da Nang, where, in every chamber, there lies some unique piece of history and culture that could only be unraveled by curious explorers like you. Here, we unveil some of the main chambers that make up the unrivaled high point of any Danang Tour.

Tam Thanh Chamber: We begin in the Tam Thanh Chamber, a holy place filled with the spiritual atmosphere of the Cham people. Originally, this chamber was a place of worship for the Cham community who regularly paid homage to their dearly yet vastly worshipped deities. That sense of the evolution of this chamber throughout the centuries greets you as you go inside. These have since been replaced with Cham deities with Buddhist statues, a change indicative of a shift in cultural formation over the area. While in this quiet, contemplative sanctuary of dark, moist, almost cooled stone you will come across a small sitting, placid Buddha statue, and – an instance of the quiet hug of the cave – you sense parts of the kiln are still emanating warmth. In this little chamber, with the mix of truly old Cham carvings with these Buddhist symbols, it is a powerful and reflective, full of tranquillity, and spiritual tapestry.

Thien Long Chamber: Then we visit Thien Long Chamber, which translates to “Heavenly Dragon Chamber." One is first impressed by the gentle coolness of the air upon penetration to this chamber, a natural effect resulting from the smart ventilation of occupants. It is connected with the surface of the earth by a series of projected-into openings within the vents meant to ensure the free flow of fresh air. It is believed that spirits lived in this chamber, and it thus was made into a site of spiritualism. The light filtering through the natural vents of this chamber catapults an endless glow, creating an otherworldly description that designates outlining rocky formations resembling mythical dragons and making this a must-visit in your Danang Tour.

Cham Pa Chamber: Further down the cave we have the Cham Pa Chamber, which is really a treasure trove of Cham artifacts. This chamber is rather more like a museum that preserves the artistic and cultural heritage of the civilization of the Chams. Here one will find ancient carvings and sculptures, inclusive of the iconic Linga and Yoni symbols depicting fertility and life cycles. It is palpable that there lies a spiritual significance to such artifacts, directly linking them to the beliefs and practices of the Cham people. History buffs will love this chamber the most for the rare glance at an ancient civilization’s artistic capability.

A Di Da Chamber: Our journey continues to the A Di Da Chamber, named after Amitabha Buddha. A tastefully carved statue of A Di Da Buddha presiding over the room sets the peaceful ambiance. This chamber is one of quiet reverence and, therefore, makes it an ideal spot for meditation and great contemplation. The acoustics are very outstanding here, for the natural echoes of the cave blend into this serenity. Whether you seek solace for your soul or just to feel the deep silence of Tang Chon Cave in Danang, this chamber can provide it.

Ban Co Tien Chamber: The last of these is the Ban Co Tien Chamber, otherwise known as the “Fairy Chessboard Chamber." Legend has it that this chamber was a favorite place of the gods to meet up and play chess regarding matters up in heaven. A square rock formation resembling a chessboard lies at the center, adding mysticism and legend to your exploration. The Ban Co Tien chamber is itself an idealistic blend of nature and folklore that delivers a unique, mystical experience to its visitors.
