1. Overview:
Not only associated with the legends of the Vietnamese people, such as An Duong Vuong establishing the capital, building a citadel, the god Kim Quy crossbow shot one arrow to kill hundreds of enemies or the tragic and touching love of My Chau – Trong. Thuy …, Co Loa citadel is also a unique tourist attraction of the capital.
2. Location:
Co Loa citadel has many different names such as Loa citadel (Oc Citadel), Con Lon citadel, Tu Long citadel, Cuu Thanh citadel, Viet Vuong citadel, Kha Lu citadel, and Co Loa citadel. In the 10th century, when Ngo Quyen was king, Co Loa became the capital for the second time.
The historical site of Co Loa citadel is spread over the territory of 3 communes: Co Loa, Viet Hung and Duc Tu in Dong Anh district, Hanoi
Located only 24km from the city center, Co Loa citadel is one of the tourist destinations near Hanoi that many young people choose as a weekend destination.
3. How is area?
With an area of up to 500 hectares, this is the oldest citadel in Vietnam. Built in the 3rd century BC under King An Duong Vuong, Co Loa citadel was the capital of the Au Lac state and of the feudal state under Ngo Quyen in the 10th century.
4. Architecture:
Co Loa Citadel was built in a spiral style, so it is called Loa Thanh. Legend has it that the citadel has up to 9 spirals, but according to archaeological excavations, now there are only 3 rounds left. The citadel is divided into 3 main areas:
Outer citadel: The citadel was built according to the method of digging the soil to where it was, digging a trench there, embanking the citadel, and building adjacent ramparts with a circumference of about 8km. The average height of the old ramparts was from 4 to 5 m, but there are also some special ramparts built up to 8 – 12 m high, consuming about 2.3 million m3 of land.
Citadel: Built with the same structure as the outer citadel, but the citadel has a narrower and more solid area with a circumference of only about 6.5km.
Inner Citadel: This is the residence of the king and a number of court officials with a relatively small circumference of only about 1.65km. Today, this area has been built by people to worship King An Duong Vuong, Princess My Chau and is a gathering place of famous historical architectural works.

Great value for money with 4 stars hotel accommodation for 4 couples. The tour guide has been very helpful and brought us to amazing places in Sapa.
