Around the primeval forests is the residence of the majority of the Mong ethnic group with a rich culture, reflecting the awareness of real-life associated with nature and typical culture in folk tunes. Songs such as love songs, weddings, lullabies, and especially Mong folk songs through the Hmong flute have stirred the hearts of many tourists. After fielding in the primeval forest, tourists return to the Hmong village to eat men (made from corn), sticky rice, rice with bamboo shoots, chili, and wild vegetables, drink a bowl of warm corn wine, and the highland people’s love is great!
Especially on the eastern part of the mountain, there is a valley nearly 1km2 wide, very flat, of mixed broadleaf and subtropical coniferous forest with some dominant tree species such as cycads, Laos oaks have a diameter of 2-3m. The reserve has a high diversity of flora, through the results of 3 surveys by the Fauna and Flora International (FFI), 788 species of higher vascular plants belonging to 480 genera, 147 families, and 5 branches, in which there are 33 rare and precious species recorded in the Red Book of Vietnam and the world. Of which, there are 2 species of endangered species, 4 species of endangered species, 7 species of rare species, and 190 species of timber belonging to 54 families, mainly rosewood and mixed woods.
Also here, it was investigated and discovered that there are 267 species of medicinal plants according to the experience of traditional medicine, these medicinal plants can be used in traditional medicines and prescriptions to treat many bone pain diseases. arthritis, gastrointestinal disease, respiratory disease, liver disease, kidney disease, fever, and skin diseases… In the flower season, the forest is covered with azaleas and orchids that bloom beautifully. The fauna in the reserve is very rich and shows high endemism, in which there is especially the jet-black gibbon.
Surveys have recorded 241 species, 74 families, and 24 orders of vertebrates, of which 54 species of mammals, 132 species of birds, 26 species of reptiles, 26 species of amphibians, especially 42 species of precious animals are rare in the Red Book of Vietnam and 28 species are globally threatened. Notably, the current jet black gibbon in Vietnam has only about 120 individuals, there are 100 individuals in Che Tao forest; There are 127 species of birds such as pheasant, woodpecker, owl, eagle, and 41 species of babbler such as striped babbler, bald-headed babbler, penguin, red-tailed babbler…
Coming to Che Tao Species and Habitat Reserve, even once, visitors can feel the richness of nature, the uniqueness of culture, and the warmth of humanity. The road to Che Tao forest is far and difficult to go, but it is very interesting. The scenery changes continuously on the way from the enchanting terraced fields to the waterfalls with white foam and the murmur of the stream, the sound of the wind blowing in the forest creates a melodious, romantic song without lyrics.
