Origins and Early History

Cam Le bungalow begins to tell the story a few decades back. The ancient village has been committed to the craft of baking sesame dried cakes for over a hundred years. Originally these cakes were created to be an everyday treat for local celebrations and family picnics. Their irresistible taste and uniqueness made this fried tofu a very special delicacy, and the village was later recognized by many as an important item on Vietnam’s culinary map.

Evolution of the Craft

It is valuable evidence of the enthusiasm and VSU of his friends in Cam Le sesame dried cake village. The process was labour-intensive, heavily reliant on manual methods and traditional tools in the beginning. But faced with such demand, the village adjusted to use new methods that were faster without sacrificing what makes their sesame dried cakes so unique in terms of taste and flavor.

Key Historical Milestones

A few milestones in the journey of Cam Le sesame dried cake village.

  • The cakes quickly grew popular in the region and became a market day staple by regular citizens during the 1950s.
  • By the 1980s, they were available nationwide and efforts began to be made for the production of it to be standardized without compromising quality.

The Art of Making Sesame Dried Cakes

The enchantment of the Cam Le sesame dried cake village commences with a process so precise, that it has reverberated down through centuries. As small yet as beautifully crafted the cakes testify to how much work each artisan put into their expertise. This is how they make these wonderful treats:

  • Selection of Ingredients: The first step is choosing the best ingredients. The main ingredients are glutinous rice flour, sugar and sesame seeds (plus a bit of ginger if you fancy!). These ingredients are important because they determine how delicious your cakes will be.
  • Preparation Methods: Combine water with glutinous rice flour until a fine dough is achieved. The dough is then divided into little pieces, and molded into round, flat cakes. They shape every cake to have the right ping and size.
  • Baking and Drying Processes: After a mold, the cakes are cooked via steaming. Baked until crispy after steaming. This is important as it provides that characteristic crispy outer coating on the cakes. Then it’s topped with sesame seeds… a lot of them, giving it a nice nuttiness.
  • Importance of Traditional Methods: The sesame dried cake makers of Cam Le Village ensure to follow age-old techniques. They might use some modern production methods, sure, but the core techniques are no different. It is this emphasis on tradition that guarantees the authentic taste and structure of each cake.
  • Variations in Recipes and Techniques: Curiously, each family in the village could have their magical recipe. There might be a little ginger, or a bit of another kind of sugar added. So, these differences contribute to the rich and colorful culinary color of Cam Le sesame dried cakes.

Take a walk with us around the village and you will see how each cake is made of passion, love, and effort. And it is this, more than the recipe and process itself; but also lifting the love put in by those creating them.
