Top Hot Springs in Tram Tau: Mu Cang Chai Tours & Activities

Hot springs in Tram Tau

Tram Tau is a remote upland district of Yen Bai. This place has 100% natural hot mineral springs from underground water that are abundant and good for health.

Tram Tau District: Tram Tau is a highland district located in the west of Yen Bai province, 114 km from the center of the province. Tram Tau is located in the tropical monsoon climate. The average altitude above sea level is about 800m. The highest peak is Ta Chi Nhu in Xa Ho commune, 2,979m above sea level, the sixth highest mountain in Vietnam, located in the Pu Luong massif in the Hoang Lien Son range. This mountain peak has many different names depending on each ethnic group, the Thai people call Ta Chi Nhu Phu Song Sung, and the Mong people call Chung Chua Nha. Next is the top of Ta Xua mountain, Ta Xua village, Ban Cong commune with the highest peak of 2,865m, ranked 10th among the highest mountains in Vietnam, where there is a “dinosaur spine", a challenging road. From the district center to Ta Xua village is a distance of about 7km, but to reach the highest peak, there is only a single dirt road with a very steep slope, which is a challenge that is not easy to overcome for anyone who wants to conquer. . Ta Xua mountain range rises up to create a natural boundary between Yen Bai and Son La, with three peaks forming an extremely majestic wonder. The highest peak is the place where the Vietnamese flagpole is erected at an altitude of 2,850m, at the second peak there are still vestiges of the old flagpole which was built during the French colonial period. The third peak is located in the middle, it resembles the line that forms the spine of a prehistoric dinosaur. Due to the high mountainous terrain, the temperature in summer is not high. Winter is cold, with winter temperatures down to 0 degrees celcius, snow covers the branches and high mountains.

The terrain gradually rises from east to west in a system of young mountains, sharp peaks, steep cliffs, steep slopes, high coefficient of erosion on strongly dissected terrain. The land area with a slope of over 250 accounts for 84.5% of the total natural area of the district, so Tram Tau district also faces many difficulties in the process of exploiting the territory.

Stream stream in Tram Tau has a fairly dense density, flowing with twists and turns, originating from many peaks in the region: Nam Tung stream consists of 2 branches. A branch originates from the Ta Xua mountain forest. A branch from Khao Chu. These two branches flow near the district capital, then merge into Nam Tung stream. Nam Hat stream also merges into two branches (one branch arises from Cang Chua Khua, one branch from San Cha) at Ban Hat. Nam Lieu stream originates from Cuu Song and joins with Nam Tung and Nam Hat. Nam Tang stream has 3 branches, which originate in Hang Chi Mua, Tang Ghenh, and Mu Nuoc, respectively, and then join together in Manh Tau called Nam Mu. When the current flows down Ngoi Thia, it is called Nam Tang. Nam Nhi stream originates from Go Lang Sang between the two communes of Ta Xi Lang and Lang Nhi. Nam Dong stream has 2 branches originating from Cao Pa Lau, Diem Cao flowing through Tuc Dan,… and many small streams with high slopes which are suitable for small and medium hydropower exploitation. The stream streams of the district all flow in the East-West direction, although they cause obstacles to traffic, they are a huge source of hydroelectric power. These streams also provide people with a rich amount of fish such as melons and turtles.

Eco-tourism, convalescence, culture: Tram Tau has great potential to develop eco-tourism, resort in the summer, take a hot mineral bath in the winter or enjoy and learn about unique cultures. of ethnic groups, such as  Gau Tao Festival, Hmong Khen Dance, La Khe, and Lip Khen of the Mong people; Naming ceremony, Xoe dance, dance by the stream of the Thai people; Tang Bu dance of the Kho Mu ethnic group; cuisine of Thai and Mong ethnic groups and products such as honey, taro, melon, bamboo shoots, plain rice, upland sticky rice…
