Tan Dinh Church Is Parish For Ho Chi Minh City Catholic Tours
With its iconic pink facade and rich history, Tan Dinh Church is a must visit on any Ho Chi Minh City Catholic tours. On the bustling Hai Ba Trung Street, this so called “Pink Church" attracts visitors for its peculiar Gothic Roman architecture and spiritual significance. Dating back to the end of the 19th century, Tan Dinh Church has developed into a highly regarded testimony to Ho Chi Minh City’s enduring Catholic heritage. Besides offering a sneak peek into the religious history of Vietnam, it also supports other nearby stops on a Ho Chi Minh tour: Notre Dame Cathedral and further cultural hot spots. Whether your reasons for visiting are faith, history, or even a photo shoot, Tan Dinh Church allows you to add just that little bit more magic to any Ho Chi Minh City Catholic tour.
Architecture and Unique Features of Tan Dinh Church
Overview of Architectural Style
Tan Dinh Church
Tan Dinh Church represents Gothic Romanesque with a soft pink façade that stands off against the bustling backdrop of Ho Chi Minh City. Full of details, one will notice tall narrow arches, carvings, and symmetric lines that guide the eye upward, giving a sense of grandeur and divine beauty. Unlike other church buildings in Vietnam, Tan Dinh is uniquely colored and thus a true landmark and favorite stop on Ho Chi Minh tours. Contrasting bright pink against the green foliage that surrounds it gives the building a fairytale appearance apt for photo ops and reflective moments alike.
The Main Tower and Auxiliary Towers
Now, lift your head! Above, amazingly high, the Central Tan Dinh Church Tower rises to 52.6 meters; it is headed by a copper cross facing the sky. This façade has, at its center, a tower with Gothic spires and heavy detailing, and it is the heart of the design of the church. Inside this tower are five bells weighing 5.5 tons in total. Can you imagine the great sound they make ringing during services?
It is flanked by two supporting towers, each with a curved roof, exquisitely latticed windows, and ornate trim, adding depth and balance to the architecture. With their lantern tops and arched shapes, inviting the visitor into the space, they create a very welcoming ambiance. These towers present a perfect example of why Ho Chi Minh City Catholic tours feature Tan Dinh Church as one of the prime architectural and cultural stops.
Interior Design and Sacred Spaces
Coming into the Tan Dinh Church is to travel deep into beauty in quietness, and sacred elegance. The interior design follows the Gothic style wherein tall columns grace the aisles, pointing your eyes to the high ceilings and the grand main altar. The altar, carved from fine Italian marble, is the focal point inside. These are complemented by beautiful statues and carvings of saints and other religious emblems inside the church, adding to the sacred spaces that make it a very reverential place for both worshippers and visitors alike.
In the nave, the two lines of columns feature statues of saints; the female saints are on one side, the male saints on the other, each beautifully crafted to add to the solemn atmosphere of the church. The stained glass windows add a warm, inviting glow with flickering candles, filling the whole church with a timeless, almost European feel. No wonder that Ho Chi Minh tours quite often take Tan Dinh to the foreground because the atmosphere of this location is impossible to forget!
Religious Significance in Ho Chi Minh City Catholic Tours

It is during these events that Tan Dinh Church is a must see if someone wants to feel the spirit of celebration from the local Catholic community.
Spiritual Activities and Ho Chi Minh City Catholic tours
Beyond Mass, Tan Dinh Church serves as a venue for a lot of spiritual activities, as well as initiatives in which the community comes together and helps one another. Ranging among prayer groups, choir practices, to charity events, opportunities are many for the church to bring the Catholic community together to interact with each other. This is all deeply intertwined with the spiritual journeys on which local Catholics embark, while the church marks the important life events: baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and even funerals. Photography Tips and Best Angles
Speaking of angles! The bold pink facade is arguably the most iconic feature of Tan Dinh Church, and finding that perfect angle is what makes the difference. Here’s how:
The Wide Shot from the Entrance: Precisely at the front gates, click on the camera to see the full glory of the pink façade and the towering spires. A wide angle lens will let you get the whole structure into the frame requisite for enabling the beautiful copper cross to stay on top.
Early Morning Light: If you want that soft, glowing look, then you have to get up early in the morning. Gentle light at about 7:00 a.m. gives the church a warm and serene look and enhances that pink color. Besides, it is less crowded at such an early time, so you’ll have space and enough time to try different angles without disturbance.
Close-up on Details: Do not miss all the minute Gothic details that make Tan Dinh Church such a showstopper. Arches, statues, and a rose window all provide different compositions available for a close up shot. Try to focus on these details to capture the craftsmanship that makes this church very special in Ho Chi Minh tours.
Iconic Photo Spots around Tan Dinh Church
If you want a bit of diversity in your shots, the surroundings of Tan Dinh Church are very good:
Side View with Trees: When shooting from a side angle, you can frame the pink facade with the green trees surrounding the church. The contrast between the lush greenery and the pink exterior presents a picture like scene that is outstanding in photos.
The Entrance Gates: The main gates of Tan Dinh Church serve as a remarkably dramatic photo shooting area. Just step out and take the main gates as your framing to bring into the center of your photo shooting the church in the background. This is an excellent setting whereby you can always manage to get a shot with depth and incidence scale.
Street Views Nearby: For an artistic touch, try a street view shot. Standing across the street and capturing the church with motorbikes or locals in the foreground gives an authentic, lively feel to the Ho Chi Minh tours. This shows the church as part of the daily life of the city unique shot that marries cultural context with architectural beauty.

Day 02
HO CHI MINH CITY TOUR AND CU CHI TUNNELS
Your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel. We will visit the following places of interest:
The Reunification Palace: Here on April 30th, 1975 the Vietnam War officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was, at the time the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam.
War Remnants Museum: Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this is a poignant display of the futility of war. Some of the black and white photography in the ‘Requiem’ exhibit is particularly touching, dedicated to both foreign and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who perished during the conflict. The courtyard outside contains the spoils of war, namely rusting jets, tanks and cannons captured from the American military machine.
Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office: Built between 1877 and 1883 this is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. Remarkably every stone used in its creation was shipped from France to Vietnam. Her two 40m towers, topped with iron spires dominate the city’s skyline. The Old Post Office is another example of French colonial architecture and is also the country’s largest post office.
Jade Emperor Pagoda: Building in 1909 in honor of the supreme Taoist god, this is one of the most spectacularly atmospheric temples in HCMC, stuffed with statues of phantasmal divinities and grotesque heroes. The pungent smoke of incense fills the air, obscuring the exquisite woodcarvings.
Cu Chi Tunnels: Watch a short introductory video showing how they were constructed, then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels. Also, on display are various mantraps, the remains of an American tank and numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. For those interested there’s even the opportunity to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range
