Tour in Details

The 6-Day Itinerary – Sapa to Ha Giang Loop on Two Wheels

Day 1: Sapa – Bat Xat – Y Ty

Morning:
We start from Sapa at 8 AM, and we pick you up at your hotel. Leaving the tourist centre behind, our motorbikes purr through cloud-skirted mountain roads which hug the Lao Cai borderlands. It’s a beautiful ride here with scenic views and plenty of sleepy H’mong villages to cruise past en route to Bat Xat. That is an ideal of the Sapa Ha Giang Loop Motorbike Tour.

Afternoon:
We pause for lunch in a quiet local place before continuing our journey deeper into the rarely visited highlands. The road into Y Ty winds high above the valley floor, providing dramatic vantage points at which to shoot superlative selfies. It’s not a touristy area, which means you get a real sense of the North.

Evening:
We reach Y Ty and stay in a local, traditional homestay with the Ha Nhi minority, well-known for the earthen houses and rich culture. You’ll eat dinner, cooked over the wood fire, and laugh with the host family as they tell you about local legends. It’s a modest, heartwarming night below the stars of the mountain.

Day 2: Y Ty – Muong Hum – Bac Ha

Morning:
After a big breakfast, which includes everything homemade, we start on the hidden backroads towards Muong Hum. Today’s ride is packed with high passes, waterfalls, and long views over the valleys. This area remains relatively untouched, providing a glimpse into the lives of the Dao and H’mong ethic minorities.

Afternoon:
We make our way to Bac Ha, a lively mountain town with a raucous Sunday market. Should your visit fall on market day, you’ll stroll through one of the most colorful ethnic congregations in Vietnam. We have lunch at home with a friendly local family and sample the rustic flavors of the region.

Evening:
Take a stroll around the town. Explore some of the nearby temples or sit in a café whilst you check into your guesthouse. It’s an ideal evening for re-energizing (and not for political shit shows).

Day 3: Bac Ha – Hoang Su Phi – Ha Giang City

Morning:
And today we hit some of the most action-packed and exciting terrain we rode in the Sapa Ha Giang Loop Motorbike Tour. We leave Bac Ha early and head west, through Hoang Su Phi, home to the country’s most heart-stopping rice terraces, identified as having the potential for UNESCO listing. We pass through groves of pine trees and hillside farms, with numerous opportunities to stop for photos.

Afternoon:
Lunch is served in a stilt house in a simple Tay village. From there, we press on, squeezing past narrow ridges and shady jungle pathways before eventually rolling into Ha Giang City.

Evening:
After days in remote mountain ranges, Ha Giang City greets us with a cozy hotel and a slice more of civilization. We have dinner in a local eatery and brace ourselves for what’s promised to be tomorrow’s epic journey through the Dong Van Stone Plateau.

Day 4: Ha Giang – Quan Ba – Dong Van

Morning:
Our adventure starts at the Km0 checkpoint, the point where every motorbike trip around not just the Ha Giang loop but anywhere in the Ha Giang province begins. We head north toward Quan Ba Heaven Gate and look out upon stunning panoramic views of the famous Twin Mountains. In the meantime, we go past scenic viewpoints, little villages, and limestone ridges disappearing towards the horizon.

Afternoon:
We stop for lunch at a local café while taking in the breathtaking views of the Dong Van Stone Plateau (a UNESCO Geopark). We then ride on to Dong Van, through old H’mong villages with the houses made of stone, wood, and mudbrick.

Evening:
Check into a guesthouse in Dong Van Old Quarter, an atmospheric town with cobbled streets and French colonial buildings. After dinner, kick back at a comfy tea house, or receive a corn wine foot massage (a local specialty) while lounging beside the Tao River. Our local Sapa tour guide will help you understand the significance of the buckwheat flower, the flower represents this rocky frontier area.

Day 5: Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng – Meo Vac – Du Gia

Morning:
After breakfast, we conquer Ma Pi Leng Pass, the “king of Vietnam’s mountain passes”. The road winds along the cliffs overlooking the emerald Nho Que River, offering jaw-dropping panoramas and photo ops that will stay with you long after the journey is over.

Afternoon:
Optional: Take a peaceful boat trip through Tu San Canyon, the deepest canyon in Vietnam. From there we ride to Meo Vac, have lunch, and follow a hidden road in the mountain and end up in Du Gia, a quiet village nestled in rice fields and forests.

Evening:
Tonight is different – our hosts in Du Gia greet us with a BBQ in traditional style by an outdoor fire. There might be music, dancing, or simply retellings under the stars. This is the Sapa Ha Giang Loop Motorbike Tour at its emotional epicenter, a moment where everything freezes in time.

Day 6: Du Gia – Ha Giang City – Return to Hanoi

Morning:
We have breakfast in this peaceful place of Du Gia. We slowly head back to Ha Giang City, meandering through valleys and limestone cliffs and on rural roads. We can pull off for a soak in a natural hot spring, a perfect respite from days on the road.

Afternoon:
We close the loop with a goodbye lunch in Ha Giang. Board the night bus to Hanoi, rebook a private transfer to either Noi Bai Airport or your hotel if you are continuing onward travel.

Evening:
As we part, may the spirit of the Northern mountains never leave you.” Whether you did the Full or from Sapa 3-day Ha Giang Loop Motorbike Tour with rider, this will remain in your memories! We’ll see you on your next ride!
