Your trip starts at 7:00 AM after being picked up at your hotel by our guide in Ho Chi Minh city. After picking you up at your hotel in nutrient Ho Chi Minh city, we will depart to the Mekong Delta. By 9:00 AM, we’ll reach My Tho, the doorway of the Mekong Delta. Here you’ll transfer to a boat and start your river trip along the Tien River to explore the lively waterway system. As we cruise, you’ll see local life along the river, where boats are loaded with fresh produce and fishermen go about their business.
We’ll stop at Tortoise Island for a peaceful visit, you’ll also visit the Tortoise Island Temple. Bask in the tranquil ambiance, savor a cup of honey tea light, and sample local produce from friendly village residents.
Our next destination (10:30 AM) is the well-known Cai Be Floating Market. This is a lively market, situated on the riverfront is where locals trade items from their boats. You will find a variety of fresh fruits available for you to buy, as well as some handmade products and local souvenirs in the lively and colorful market.
After browsing in the market, now it’s your chance to taste a delicious Mekong Delta lunch. We’ll shuttle to a riverfront or floating restaurant where you’ll feast on traditional dishes such as fried snakehead fish, canh chua ca loc (sour fish soup), and goi cuon (spring rolls). The meal is a celebration of the region’s deep culinary roots and fresh Delta ingredients.
We eat lunch, then nip off to Ben Tre, which is called the Coconut Kingdom. Local coconut candy factory, you will learn the process of how the candy is made from coconut with a few special ingredients. You’ll even get to sample the fresh, homemade candy and meet the artisans who continue to carry on this tradition.
At 3:00 PM join us in a visit to a local fruit orchard to get a taste of the region’s tropical fruits. You will be able to pick fruits like sau rieng (durian), mang cut (mangosteen), and vu sua (sapodilla) from the trees. It’s a tasty and joyous way to connect to the agrarian soul of the Mekong Delta.
After we finish picking fresh fruit, we will go on a leisurely boat trip among the small sampans to see how inhabitants make their living here, and savor the scenic view of the delta.
On the return trip to Ho Chi Minh City, we will visit a traditional windmill village: the unique feature of the Mekong Delta. You’ll be introduced to the traditional windmill making process and also other local handicrafts. This stop brings a cultural element to your travels and you’ll gain an appreciation for the Delta’s artisan heritage.
We board our boat and start out cruise in to My Tho. To be welcomed aboard with a refreshing cool drink. 4:30 PM: Our driver and tour guide will take you back to Ho Chi Minh City with memories on your back after an exciting time.
