Rise and shine! Our thrilling “Explore Ho Chi Minh from the Mekong Delta in One Day" adventure starts early with an at-5:00-AM pick-up at your peaceful location in the Mekong Delta. You will be greeted with a drive through the emerald green of rice fields and waterways, which makes this place definitively beautiful. The perfect tone meets the traveler in the peaceful landscape of early morning when the first light of day breaks over the horizon.
08:00 – Arrival in Ho Chi Minh City: Visit the War Remnants Museum
War Remnants Museum: We will get freshly driven to the throbbing heart of Ho Chi Minh City. On arriving here, you’ll first visit the War Remnants Museum, a heritage place of really great historical value. Here, you step back in time through exhibits that detail the Vietnam War from many perspectives. From detailed photographs to powerful artifacts, the museum gives a most evocative view of the war at ground zero, allowing visitors to achieve a deep understanding of this critical chapter of Vietnam’s history. It’s an eye-opening experience that leaves a lasting impression.
09:30 – Explore Binh Tay Market (Cholon)
Binh Tay Market
Next, we will move on to visit Binh Tay Market, which is situated within the district of Cholon, in what is considered a busy region characterized by activity and culture. The market was built in the early 20th century and is not only meant for shopping, as it forms a livewire of history with many reflections of the rich heritage of the Chinese community living in Ho Chi Minh City. As you meander through the maze of stalls, all your senses will be consumed in the real local market experience. From fresh produce to traditional crafts, there are a lot of other treasures provided in the Market for the guests to enjoy. The perfect way to get some sense of the everyday life of the city residents and maybe get some unique souvenirs.
12:00 – Lunch at a Local Restaurant
After a morning of discovery, follow in those touristic footsteps for a delicious authentic Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant. The menu should provide a real reflection of the kind of authentic cuisine served across Southern Vietnam a bowl of steaming pho, a plate of fresh spring rolls, or a taste of caramelized clay pot fish. Dining in Ho Chi Minh City is more than intake of food; rather, it is cultural revelation through colorful flavors.
13:30 – Visit to the Independence Palace (Reunification Palace)
With refilled energies, we simply moved ahead to our next monument: the Independence Palace, or historically the Reunification Palace, famous due to the history of the Vietnam War, part of the general wider war. While walking through its grand halls and historical rooms, you can learn all of the key events that happened in this place, especially the historical day in 1975 when a North Vietnamese tank crashed through its gates, marking the end of the war. No less interesting than its historical role is its architecture, singular in its kind, blending modern and traditional features.
14:30 – Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica and Saigon Central Post Office
Saigon Central Post Office
Next, we’ll discuss two of the most majestic examples of French colonial architecture in all of Ho Chi Minh City: Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica and Saigon Central Post Office. The twin bell towers of the Notre Dame Cathedral and its jaw-dropping red-brick facade bear witness to the former colonial capital’s past and longstanding power. Walking distance from the Notre-Dame, there lies the Saigon Central Post Office. It was also made by the famous Gustave Eiffel. Entering the post office, one gets the feel of really being in the past, where such grandeur existed and the old-fashioned phone booths aligned along its walls. Together with the Notre Dame Cathedral, these landmarks give a stepping-stone impression of the city’s European heritage and blend in with Vietnamese culture.
15:30 – Shopping at Ben Thanh Market
As our day of discovery comes to a close, we visit the ever-popular Ben Thanh Market. This bustling market is like a miniature city within the city and is an absolute must on any visit to Saigon; you can buy all sorts of here, from traditional handicrafts and souvenirs to local snacks. Whether you are looking for a memento from the journey or just want to expose yourself to the bustling market atmosphere, Ben Thanh Market is the place for you. And remember, exercise those bargaining skills to get the best prices!
16:30 – Return Journey to the Mekong Delta
Time to kick back, all the way back to the Mekong Delta, with bags packed full of treasures and hearts packed full of memories. As you drive to the west, you’ll have time to reflect on the adventures of the day and watch, once again, as the landscape turns from this tangle of urban sprawl back into the country’s intimate embrace. And as the sun sets, casting gold over the fields, you’ll have the perfect end to a day well spent.
19:00 – Tour Conclusion

What to Pack for the Tour: Explore Ho Chi Minh from the Mekong Delta in One Day
What could only get your day a lot better since you are set to discover the tranquility and the fast pace of Ho Chi Minh City while also being properly prepared for it. The area is indeed tropical, meaning the best clothes to wear will be light and streamlined ones. Make sure you have those walking shoes on because you will be hopping from one market street right down to the museum floors. You’ll, of course, need to bring a hat or cap to shield you from the sun, maybe a small backpack to carry a water bottle and sunscreen, along with any souvenirs you may pick up along the way. Also a light rain jacket, or better still, a poncho, can be very handy, especially in the rocky season when it rains.
Health and Safety for the Tour: Explore Ho Chi Minh from the Mekong Delta in One Day
On this “Discover Ho Chi Minh from the Mekong Delta in One Day" tour, your health will come first. Keep water close at hand to drink enough, as naturally, the sun blazes ferociously. We recommend smearing yourself well with sunblock even as you set out for your day and then ensure frequent reapplication, especially in the case of sensitive skin. And, of course, on this trip prone to insect bites, you can bring an insect repellent for protection. There is no designated vaccine for this tour, but it is always recommended to have your routine vaccination up to date before traveling. And most importantly, follow the instructions of your tour leader by always staying with the group, particularly in crowded places like the markets.
Cultural Etiquette for the Tour: Explore Ho Chi Minh from the Mekong Delta in One Day
Respect for local customs and traditions extends to every aspect of Ho Chi Minh Tours: act in such a way that your visit is enjoyable to both you and the locals. One such example is dressing modestly within religious sites, such as temples or the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, by ensuring that your shoulders and knees are covered. It is also usually polite to take off shoes at the gate, if not required to, as a sign of further humility. Bargaining is quite a usual activity at places like Binh Tay and Ben Thanh markets. It is always done with enough good humor and smiles, though. Approach the locals with a bright smile and a friendly attitude. Small gestures of respect will enhance your experience and leave a good impression for sure.
Photography Tips: You must wish to snap the beauty and vibrancy of locations that we visit, taking the “Explore Ho Chi Minh from the Mekong Delta in One Day" tour, but be sensitive to cultural norms when taking pictures. Ask for permission first from the people you are photographing, especially in markets or religious sites. Be empathetic to the content within the War Remnants Museum since it is sensitive historical material. The best shots are very early in the morning or late afternoon, with the light producing a golden hue in your photos. Last but not least, set the camera down at times and fully engage, because the best moments are sometimes not captured on film.
Bearing these in mind, you are fully ready for an exhilarating day of discovery on our “Explore Ho Chi Minh from the Mekong Delta in One Day" tour. This insight will help you gain the most from your journey to southeastern Vietnam, from packing the right gear, keeping safe and respectful, and even capturing that perfect photo. Day 02
HO CHI MINH CITY TOUR AND CU CHI TUNNELS
Your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel. We will visit the following places of interest:
The Reunification Palace: Here on April 30th, 1975 the Vietnam War officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was, at the time the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam.
War Remnants Museum: Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this is a poignant display of the futility of war. Some of the black and white photography in the ‘Requiem’ exhibit is particularly touching, dedicated to both foreign and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who perished during the conflict. The courtyard outside contains the spoils of war, namely rusting jets, tanks and cannons captured from the American military machine.
Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office: Built between 1877 and 1883 this is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. Remarkably every stone used in its creation was shipped from France to Vietnam. Her two 40m towers, topped with iron spires dominate the city’s skyline. The Old Post Office is another example of French colonial architecture and is also the country’s largest post office.
Jade Emperor Pagoda: Building in 1909 in honor of the supreme Taoist god, this is one of the most spectacularly atmospheric temples in HCMC, stuffed with statues of phantasmal divinities and grotesque heroes. The pungent smoke of incense fills the air, obscuring the exquisite woodcarvings.
Cu Chi Tunnels: Watch a short introductory video showing how they were constructed, then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels. Also, on display are various mantraps, the remains of an American tank and numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. For those interested there’s even the opportunity to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range
