A Brief History

Hoang A Tuong Palace, also known as the “Palace of the King of H’Mong," was built in the early 20th century by Hoang Yen Chao, a rich Tay chieftain for his family. Construction began in 1914 and completed in 1921, symbolizing power, influence, and prosperity.

The thing that makes Sapa tours visit Hoang A Tuong Palace so peculiar is the crossing of Eastern and Western architectural styles. The palace was designed by French and Chinese architects, and this explains why it is an example of multicultural influence defining the rich heritage of the Northwest. Walking down its corridors, you feel echoes of history and hear stories from a bygone era.

Architectural Highlights

The “fortress-like" design of the palace catches one’s attention from the word go. Major defensive features like watchtowers and moats were incorporated, thus helping it serve not only as a residence but also as a stronghold for the Hoang family.

Some striking features are the carvings along its walls, arched windows, elegant courtyards, and symmetrically balanced spaces that show perfect harmony between French elegance and Chinese symbolism. Imagine yourself standing in the grand courtyard, surrounded by towering columns and sunlight streaming through arched windows is the kind of beauty that Sapa Tours offers to every visitor.
