Cooking Class Tour In Ho Chi Minh City

Morning Itinerary – City Exploration

7:30 – 8:00 AM: Pickup from Hotel

We start the day very early in the morning. In the window from 7:30 to 8:00, a friendly guide will come to pick you up at your accommodation venue. Make sure you’re ready and excited since today is filled with learning and adventure. We will visit some of the city’s famous landmarks that have their significance.

8:00 – 9:00 AM: Independence Palace

First, we come to the Grand Independence Palace—Reunification Palace. This beautiful historical building represents the end of the Vietnam War, as a North Vietnamese army tank crashed through its gates in 1975. Walk around these grand halls and rooms and get some taste of such architectural marvels that integrate tradition and modernity into one. The palace’s design features spacious rooms, beautiful gardens, and impressive halls that host many significant events. Don’t miss the basement, which houses a network of tunnels and communication centers used during the war.

9:00 – 10:00 AM: Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon & Central Post Office

We will also go to the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, as it is located not far from the place, and then to the Central Post Office. We will also see these last two buildings that, as landmarks, are edifices from French colonial architecture.

  • Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon:  Built from 1863 to 1880, this elegant cathedral is completed with two humongous bell towers and stunning glass windows—it is a perfect spot for those wanting to capture memorable photos.
  • Central Post Office: A few steps ahead, this Gustave Eiffel-designed building carries an attractive facade and possesses a splendid interior with a high, domed roof. It’s still a working post office at which you can send a postcard home!

10:00 – 10:30 AM: Ho Chi Minh City Hall

Then we will walk to the Ho Chi Minh City Hall; a beautiful French colonial building from the turn of the 20th century. Although the interior is not accessible to the public, the exterior is certainly appealing. The Hall has for many years been a favorite spot for photographers, especially with the lighting at night. The guide will come in with interesting narratives about its history and the game of governing the city,.

10:30 – 11:30 AM: War Remnants Museum

We will be visiting the War Remnants Museum, another place of deep insight into the history of the Vietnam War. There is an elaborate collection of artifacts, photographs, and exhibitions about the activities during the war in the museum. As you view the exhibitions within, a person is left with a deep kind of realization regarding the extent to which the war affected Vietnam and the people there. This definitely will be an enlightening and moving experience.

11:30 – 12:30 PM: Lunch at a Local Restaurant

Treat yourself to a morning full of exploration before indulging in some delicious, yet quintessentially traditional Vietnamese cuisine. So, head to a local restaurant and enjoy invigorating and authentic dishes, trying the many rich, varied Vietnamese culinary traditions. From that steaming bowl of pho to fresh spring rolls or the tasty banh mi; this is going to be an exciting treat to kick off your culinary adventure of an afternoon.

Evening Itinerary – Market Visits and Shopping

3:30 – 4:30 PM: Cho Lon – Binh Tay Market

Sated, we travel west to Cho Lon—a.k.a. Chinatown—to concentrate on the busiest market of southern Vietnam: Binh Tay Market.

  • Historical Background: Built in the 1920s by a wealthy Chinese merchant, Binh Tay Market is a true architectural jewel, incorporating fine details and a spacious central courtyard.
  • Cultural Significance: This market is more than just a commercial hub; culturally, it is also a melting pot from which Vietnamese and Chinese influences emanate. It’s a colorful area, vividly alive, and a peek into the lives of the locals.
  • Shopping Tips: While you wander through the marketplace, look for some of the distinctive items, including traditional herbal medicines and exotically flavored fruits, along with very skillfully created souvenir items. Of course, do not forget to flex your bargaining muscles at the same time.

4:30 – 5:00 PM: Ben Thanh Market

The last stop today will be at the famous Ben Thanh Market.

  • Overview: Another ancient market, Ban Thanh, is one of the symbols of Ho Chi Minh City. It sells many types of goods: right from clothes and accessories to fresh produce and street food.
  • Popular Items: Vietnamese coffee, lacquerware, and hand-embroidered textiles. And of course, the street food is not to be missed for tasting or making last-minute purchases.
  • Negotiating Prices: Don’t forget to haggle! Bargaining is expected, and it’s a fun way to interact with vendors. Start with a smile, offer about half of the initial price, and negotiate your way to a good deal.

  • War Remnants Museum: Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this is a poignant display of the futility of war. Some of the black and white photography in the ‘Requiem’ exhibit is particularly touching, dedicated to both foreign and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who perished during the conflict. The courtyard outside contains the spoils of war, namely rusting jets, tanks and cannons captured from the American military machine.
  • Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office: Built between 1877 and 1883 this is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. Remarkably every stone used in its creation was shipped from France to Vietnam. Her two 40m towers, topped with iron spires dominate the city’s skyline. The Old Post Office is another example of French colonial architecture and is also the country’s largest post office.
  • Jade Emperor Pagoda: Building in 1909 in honor of the supreme Taoist god, this is one of the most spectacularly atmospheric temples in HCMC, stuffed with statues of phantasmal divinities and grotesque heroes. The pungent smoke of incense fills the air, obscuring the exquisite woodcarvings.
  • Cu Chi Tunnels: Watch a short introductory video showing how they were constructed, then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels. Also, on display are various mantraps, the remains of an American tank and numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. For those interested there’s even the opportunity to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range
