Overview:
Water puppetry is a folk art form, concentrated mainly in the Red River Delta, born with the wet rice civilization, is the brainchild of farmers in the Northern Delta, and has become a popular art form. the precious traditional art of the Vietnamese people.
In the Later Le Dynasty, in Dao Xa village (now Dao Thuc), Mr. Dao Dang Khiem, whose real name was Nguyen Dang Vinh, after passing Tham Hoa was appointed as an official of the cabinet under the rank of Tam Quan mandarin in the Le dynasty. He built a bronze mint for the King, reformed the re-planning of land to grow cotton, grow mulberries, raise silkworms, and weave silk. With his enthusiasm, he established guilds such as Martial Ward, Master Ward, Worker Ward, Moring Ward (these wards are no longer available), and especially the Water Puppet Ward. Thus, Dao Thuc Water Puppetry Ward has existed for 300 years and is still being preserved by people today.

Dao Thuc Water Puppet Ward currently has nearly 60 members, including three generations. Many families and clans consider water puppetry as a treasure, passed down from father to son, with families having 4-5 generations participating in the village's water puppetry. Dao Thuc Puppet is unique in that it can be rotated in 4 directions, depending on the operator, the content of the game, and the puppet control with a stick. Not only performing traditional folk tales, today, but Dao Thuc artisans have also composed a new repertoire praising the homeland and the country suitable to today's life.
Performances:
Over the years, Dao Thuc Water Puppet Ward has organized thousands of performances to serve delegations from all over the world, and hundreds of performances to serve the political tasks of the locality as well as of the city of Hanoi and Hanoi. in provinces and cities across the country. The ward has also held more than 100 foreign concerts in countries such as China, Thailand, the Netherlands…
Teaching and training the young generation:
In addition to organizing performances to serve domestic and foreign audiences, Dao Thuc Water Puppet Ward is also interested in teaching and training the young generation to absorb and preserve this folk art form.
