Pu Luong Tours: Pu Luong Rice Terrace Trekking Package – 3 Days

Day 1: Hanoi – Pu Luong Nature Reserve

Your northern adventure begins with a morning departure from your hotel in Hanoi. You will leave the capital behind and travel southwest through the countryside. Where urban scenery gradually gives way to rice fields, forested hills, and limestone mountains.

A scenic stop may be made along the mountain route to admire the expansive valleys below and sample local specialties. Such as com lam, sticky rice traditionally cooked inside bamboo tubes.

You will arrive at Pu Luong Nature Reserve around midday and enjoy lunch featuring regional ingredients. After checking in, you will take some time to appreciate the peaceful mountain surroundings.

In the afternoon, you will transfer to the starting point of an introductory walk through rural Pu Luong. Crossing a suspension bridge over the Cham River and follow paths between rice fields, sugarcane plantations. As well as traditional stilt-house villages inhabited by ethnic Thai communities.

Then, you will meet local residents and learn about their everyday lives, farming traditions, and distinctive wooden architecture. Continuing to the riverside to observe Pu Luong’s impressive bamboo waterwheels. This is an ingenious system traditionally used to carry water from streams into cultivated fields.

Weather and water levels permitting, you will board a simple bamboo raft for a relaxing journey along the Cham River. Surrounded by forested hills and quiet farmland, the ride offers a gentle introduction to the reserve’s rural atmosphere.

Returning to the retreat for dinner and an evening at leisure.

Day 2: Pu Luong Trekking and Hieu Waterfall

In the morning, you will wake to fresh mountain air and enjoy breakfast overlooking Pu Luong’s valleys and terraced fields.

Then, you transfer toward Pho Doan, where travelers visiting on Thursday or Sunday may explore the colorful local market. Residents from surrounding communities gather here to trade vegetables, textiles, household items, agricultural products, and regional foods.

Beginning the day’s trek along quiet paths leading through rice terraces, forest sections, and remote hamlets. The changing landscape provides opportunities to observe traditional agriculture and daily village life away from busy tourism centers.

Next, you will continue traveling toward Hieu Village, a beautiful settlement surrounded by limestone mountains and green farmland. Descending through the village to reach Hieu Waterfall, where clear water flows over multiple limestone levels and forms natural pools.

You will enjoy a locally prepared lunch at a family home or village guesthouse. Depending on the season and water conditions, there may be time to swim, explore the waterfall area, or relax in the peaceful surroundings.

In the afternoon, you will return to the hotel by vehicle. Spending the remainder of the day relaxing by the pool, walking around the nearby village. Or simply enjoying the mountain views.

From the higher sections of the trail, you can admire panoramic views across the valley before descending toward Kho Muong, one of the reserve’s most beautifully situated villages. Surrounded by mountains and largely protected from modern development, the village preserves the quiet rhythms and architectural traditions of the local Thai community.

Then, you will walk through the settlement and continue toward Bat Cave, also known locally as Doi Cave. The enormous limestone cavern contains impressive rock formations and provides shelter for several bat species. Entry is subject to weather, trail, and safety conditions.

Next, you will return for lunch before checking out and bidding farewell to Pu Luong. Traveling east toward Ninh Binh, a province renowned for its dramatic limestone formations, historic monuments, rivers, and flooded valleys.

Hoa Lu served as Vietnam’s political center during the Dinh and Early Le dynasties in the tenth century. You will visit temples dedicated to Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang and Emperor Le Dai Hanh. While learning about the establishment of an independent Vietnamese state and the natural defenses provided by the surrounding mountains.

Depending on the selected route and guests’ fitness levels, an optional climb may be arranged for elevated views over Hoa Lu’s historic landscape.

After your lunch at a local restaurant, you will continue to visit the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Trang An brings together exceptional limestone geology, archaeological evidence, sacred temples, forests, and waterways.

Then, you will board a small traditional sampan rowed by a local boat operator. Gliding along clear rivers beneath towering, vegetation-covered karsts, pass through natural grottoes, and stop at temples hidden within peaceful valleys.
