Six hours of driving sounds like a long time, but trust me, the views along the way will knock your socks off. Along the way, we halt at Bac Ha, a town famous for ethnic diversity and colorful local markets. Here, we will eat lunch at Cho Phien Bac Ha Restaurant, where you can taste thang co (famous H’Mong horse meat stew), pho chua (sour pho), grilled pork marinated with mountain herbs.
01:30 PM – Hoang A Tuong Palace: A Walk Through History
In the afternoon, we enjoy a short drive to visit Hoang A Tuong Palace, an architectural phenomenon erected in the early twentieth century for a powerful local ruler. This palace, with its touches of French architecture and Chinese décor, presents the story of Bac Ha’s history, a period of trade and colonial power in this part of the world.
03:00 PM – The Journey to Quan Ho Than
Here, we start the most beautiful section of our drive. On the road to Quan Ho Than, Si Ma Cai, the winding roads follow the mountain ridges, opening to the misty valleys, terraced rice fields stretching endlessly.
04:30 PM – Arriving at Seo Can Ho: The Land of Blossoms
And here it is, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. When you come to Seo Can Ho, the center of Quan Ho Than, you will understand why this is the paradise of pear blossom. In March and April, thousands of pear trees burst into blossoms simultaneously, creating a spectacle that appears as though snow has blanketed the mountains.
We’re going to spend a few days here exploring pear orchards, visiting local farmers and, of course, taking lots of beautiful pictures.
