Sample Itinerary: Untouched Sapa Tours Trek to Y Linh Ho Village (3,4 Days)

Day 1: Arrival and Trek to Y Linh Ho Village

Morning:
At 6:00 AM, we meet the guests at Lao Cai railway station. Indeed, even at this early hour in the morning, refreshing mountainous air puts vigor into us for the day to come. After about an hour of driving through the picturesque road, we reach the center of Sapa town. Here, a local restaurant will serve you a warm breakfast; maybe a warming bowl of phở or fragrant sticky rice with local tea.

The real adventure begins at 9:00 AM. Lace on boots and begin a trek into the amazing Muong Hoa Valley. As we make our way down, the world opens up into breathtaking vistas: terraced fields cascade down the hillsides like a green ocean, dotted with small wooden houses.

At 11:30 AM, arrive at Y Linh Ho Village, nestled behind tall peaks but still a quaint village. Your lunch will also be served for you in this local village at one H’Mong family’s house. You would be sitting by a wooden bench at lunch eating dishes that were just prepared pork, stir-fried vegetables with garlic, and rice probably fluffier than rice you’ve experienced.

Afternoon:
We all go out for a walk in the village after lunch. I just love the look of wonder on my guests’ faces as they watch villagers weaving complicated patterns with indigo-dyed cloth or tending to their livestock. At 3.00 PM, we make our way to a quiet viewpoint overlooking the valley to drink in the tranquility.

By evening at around 5:30 PM, we would have reached our homestay. The night falls with steaming hot homemade dinner amidst laughs and chattings across the dinner table and above the head in a star-laden sky in the mountains.

Day 2: Y Linh Ho Village to Lao Chai and Ta Van

Morning:
Quite an early start to the day, at 6:30 AM, whereby the village wakes up with the cooing of birds. Breakfast will consist of warm bread, eggs, and newly brewed tea before we leave for Lao Chai Village at 7:30 AM.

My favorite is Lao Chai Trekking. It passes the paddy terrace fields shining in the morning dew or just after the morning mist. We will reach Lao Chai Village, of the ethnic minority people Ta Phin, at around 10:00 AM, where all the locals are busy producing their crops or weaving some brocades. I highly recommend chatting with them-they are proud of their nationality and more than happy to share stories.

Afternoon:
We have lunch at 12:00 PM at a small family-run restaurant at Lao Chai and then continue our way to Ta Van Village. The trek takes around 2 hours through the bamboo forests, alongside the sparkling streams.

By 3:30 PM, we will arrive at the Ta Van residence of the Giay people. It feels like a village in another world because the stilt houses are different and quiet. This is where the guests are most likely to try weaving or join a cooking demonstration.

Dinner at 6:30 PM is a feast of local flavors grilled fish, sticky rice, and fresh greens from the fields. Later on, we will be gathering for a cultural exchange with villagers, sharing songs and stories in the late evening.

Day 3: Ta Van – Muong Hoa Stream – Sapa

Morning:
We start our day with a traditional breakfast at 7:00 AM and then leave for Muong Hoa Stream. This part of the trek is very peaceful; the stream winds its way along the valley, reflecting the greenery around it.

We reach the panoramic viewpoint at 9:30 AM. Now, this is where I always stop and let my guests see Muong Hoa Valley in full view, as far as the eye can see.

Afternoon:
We drive back to Sapa at 11:30 AM for lunch at a local restaurant. Local specialties like lau ca hoi (salmon hot pot) and spring rolls are always a hit.

Free afternoon in Sapa town visit the stone church, catch a glimpse of the vibrant market, or go shopping for souvenirs of handmade textiles. Later, transfer back to Lao Cai by van for the 4:30 PM train to head back home.

Day 4 (Optional): Fansipan Summit Adventure

Morning:
Other day-staying guests start at 7:00 AM for a transfer to Fansipan Mountain, which is referred to as the “Roof of Indochina." From 7:30 AM onwards, take an amazing cable car ride while flying over strong forests and deep valleys, with flying clouds all around.

The short hike from there up to the summit is 3,143 meters some 600 steps. To be able to stand there at 9:00 AM, looking down on the rest of the world, is an indescribable feeling: one of accomplishment, awe, and connection with nature.

Afternoon:
The guests have lunch very leisurely in Sapa, after which the guests end the journey.
