The capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, is well known for its mouthwatering home cooked cuisine and rich gastronomic legacy. Here are some of the top restaurants to take into account if you want to indulge in real Vietnamese home cuisine and are about to travel to Hanoi.
Tam Vi Restaurant
Established in 2019, Tam Vi is a restaurant located on a small street in Yen The, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi with a name composed of the name of Mrs. Tam – mother of Ms. Mai Anh (home restaurant owner) and “vi", meaning taste. Besides, “Tam Vi" also means the perfect, complete, not too much, not too little in flavor. Just enough fresh ingredients in the early morning market, just enough affection and thoughtfulness of the cook’s hands.
Talking about the birth of Tam Vi, the idea of opening a restaurant of the mother and daughter originated from the desire to serve traditional Vietnamese meals to family members. Coming from a large family with a traditional family culture, cooking sometimes becomes a “big deal”, requiring meticulous care. The people who started Tam Vi were simply passionate about cooking. Their simple wish was to open a small shop, serving the everyday dishes of Vietnamese people.
“Tam Vi is home-cooked meals in the memories of Dong Kinh” – The home restaurant wishes to create delicious dishes like “mother’s cooking” with simple ingredients but the flavors are extremely memorable. Tam Vi not only focuses on the dishes, but also pays special attention to the space and service to create a complete culinary experience for each diner when coming here. Perhaps that is why the restaurant increasingly attracts a large number of tourists and local customers to visit when they crave the taste of a home-cooked meal.

REVIEW
“Tam Vi is a restaurant located on a small street of Yen The, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of modern life, Tam Vi home restaurant still maintains its classic features as a place for peace of mind. It is a quiet two-story wooden house, with about 20 tables, serving about 100 diners at a time. From the walls, ceiling, floor, stairs, old tables and chairs, bamboo chopsticks, all recreate the ancient house. In addition, the restaurant has a small yard with many trees, suitable for sitting on cool days. You can enjoy a cool meal in a relaxing, peaceful space. Tam Vi’s menu has more than 100 dishes in the style of “mother’s cooking" very close. Besides the three fixed trays of Huu Thanh, Nam Phong and Trung Bac, you can also choose any tray of rice to your liking, with delicious and attractive dishes. Among them, the most popular dishes are braised fish, fried eggs, fried tofu, boiled water spinach, crab soup, shrimp soup with gourd, braised pork with eggs, pickled cucumbers, cabbage rolls with meat… These are just simple, familiar dishes but still enough to “make diners miss" with their rich, delicious flavors. The dishes on the menu of Tam Vi restaurant are more expensive than the average of Vietnamese restaurants, however, I find the quality of the dishes completely worth the price. Every dish is fresh and delicious, with a rich flavor, balanced with just the right amount of salt and sweet, so it suits the taste of not only Vietnamese people but also foreign diners.”
“The restaurant has a quite comfortable space. The food has a home taste, but not very full-flavored. The appetizers and desserts are delicious, but most of the main dishes do not have the original flavor of the dish.”
“Northern style food, I went to eat with my Japanese boss. The food felt like a home-cooked meal. The restaurant is decorated in the style of an old Vietnamese house, with familiar bamboo wood. Fast and enthusiastic service.”

REVIEW
“Located on a small alley in Hanoi, Indochine blends into the quietness of the surrounding area with an old house built during the colonial period in Hanoi. The restaurant does not have a prominent appearance because it is simply an old-style house. Only when stepping inside the house can I feel the soul of Hanoi with the antique wooden furniture and the quiet Hanoi scenery along the wall. All the staff here are dressed in traditional Vietnamese costumes, contributing to creating an authentic corner of Hanoi. Indochine’s main menu is definitely Hanoi and Vietnamese dishes, some suggestions for gourmets are scallop rolls; shrimp rolls with scallop sauce; braised ling sam, Indochine soup and Indochine fried rice. Famous Vietnamese wines such as Nep and Lua Moi can also be found here. Indochine helps me feel both familiar and strange Vietnamese dishes in the cozy space of the restaurant.”
“Enthusiastic Delicious food Fast service Clean Easy to find Fun Airy Beautiful design Rich food Will come back and recommend to friends”
