The lacquer of Danang
Lacquerware
The lacquer of Danang is a tradition art form with ancient techniques passed on through generations; it is famous for the shiny, smooth finish with intricate, hand-painted designs. Purchased in Danang, one may go to local galleries and at the Non Nuoc Fine Arts Village to see all ranges of lacquer, from vases to decorative plates. It is through such a detailed process of layering, sanding, and polishing that one can appreciate a piece from the months of work the artists put into every item. These lacquer items serve two causes: they are beautiful house decorations and, at the same time, are symbols of Vietnamese craftsmanship that can pass the test of time.
Handmade Jewelry
At the very heart of all the hustle and bustle of Danang markets are items of handcrafted jewelry that are unique and made from materials native to the area: silver, pearls, and even items that have been recycled. Artisans at such markets as Con Market and Han Market showcase their creativity in creating modern Vietnamese designs when they sell their jewelry. Buying the jewelry keeps the economy afloat and allows for the continued development of artisanal skills. Be sure to visit such a market during the Danang tours to see them in action and have your own jewelry that will speak of both the old and new.
