Nine of these districts are located in the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve.

The remaining districts and towns are midland and coastal, in which Hoang Mai, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, Nghi Loc, and Cua Lo border the sea.

Weather and climate:

Nghe An is located in the tropical monsoon climate area, with 2 distinct seasons: summer and winter. From April to August every year, the province is affected by hot and dry southwest wind.

In winter, it is influenced by the cold and wet northeast monsoon. Nghe An has a 419 km long border with Laos, which is the province with the longest land border in Vietnam.
