The temperature is hot, and humidity levels very high in the city all year round, but knowing certain climatic features creates an unforgettable experience that is well worth visiting.
Overview of Ho Chi Minh City’s Climate
Ho Chi Minh City is located in southern Vietnam. The climate of this city is tropical with pronounced seasons-wet and dry. The city does not experience cold conditions throughout the year, and the temperatures range between 25°C and 35°C. This city enjoys sunny days, so it usually serves as an energetic destination for tourism and cultural exchange. On the other hand, because of weather conditions, this will create big differences in travel. Therefore, planning the trip needs to be carefully conducted according to the climate.
Two Main Seasons: Wet and Dry
The two main seasons prevail in Ho Chi Minh City, namely the wet season from May to November and the dry season from December to April.
Wet Season (May to November): This is often marked by afternoon showers and high humidity. The rain obviously can pour down heavily, but these showers are usually short as the city is left refreshed and vibrant. The heavy greenery, cooler temperatures, and fewer tourists will make this season quite exciting to people who don’t mind a little rain. Plus, you can get great deals on Ho Chi Minh tours!
Dry Season (December to April): This is considered the best time to visit Ho Chi Minh City. Generally sunny in this period, with reduced humidity and less rainfall, thus ideal for sightseeing at many outdoor attractions, markets, and historical sites that Ho Chi Minh City has to offer. During the dry season, temperatures range from between 28°C to 35°C, thus providing comfortable conditions to perform all types of activities.
Temperature and Humidity Throughout the Year
Throughout the year, Ho Chi Minh City has quite warm temperatures: On average temperatures range between 25ºC and 35ºC (77 to 95_AST). The temperature might be much higher during the dry season, but without humidity, it is more pleasant for sightseeing and taking numerous Ho Chi Minh Tours. During the wet season, the level of temperature is slightly lower, ranging from approximately 26ºC to 30ºC, with natural humidity reaching up to 90%.
Knowledge of the climate, no matter when you choose to go, will give you an appropriate idea as to how well you can plan the most comfortable and enjoyable tour. Sun or refreshing rains, there’s always a wee bit of magic in discovering the dynamic streets of Ho Chi Minh City!
Best Months for Visiting Ho Chi Minh City
Nguyen Hue Walking Street
Planning your trip to this vibrant southern hub of Vietnam includes knowing when the best time to visit Ho Chi Minh City is. From bustling streets and markets to serene temples and historic landmarks, Ho Chi Minh City is a destination that shines year-round, but certain months have an especially delightful experience in store. Let’s dive into what each season brings you and help you decide when to book your next adventure with Ho Chi Minh City tours!
Dry Season: December to April
The weather is certainly most pleasant during the best time to visit Ho Chi Minh City dry season, which extends from December through April. This time is characterized by sunny weather, low humidity, and less rain, which will make it perfect for tourists hoping to explore the city in comfort. You’ll find the skies mostly clear, making photo conditions ideal, with temperatures warm but not overly hot, generally ranging between 28°C and 35°C.
Why Choose the Dry Season?
Perfect Weather for Exploration: The weather is bright, with barely any rain and none in the forecast view, so it’s a good time for an outdoor session. Take a cruisy walk in Ben Thanh Market, down Nguyen Hue Walking Street, or on a day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Everything becomes pleasant when not caught in sudden showers!
Festivals and Events: The dry season is the ideal time for witnessing some of the most vivid city festivals. In January, it celebrates Tet Nguyen Dan/ Vietnamese Lunar New Year, which is the biggest and most colorful festival of the year where the city streets wear a festive look with parades, dragon dances, and other traditional performances. This time could be very good to be a part of the local culture and festivities.
Ideal for Outdoor Activities: Whether it is a boat tour down the Saigon River or a walking tour around the historic streets of District 1, the mild temperatures and clear skies provide rather exquisite backdrops for any kind of outdoor adventure. Most Ho Chi Minh City tours are usually fully booked during this time, with a variety of excursions catering to special interests.
Wet Season: May to November
Although the wet season might sound a bit less worth visiting because of frequent rainfall from May to November, it has a magic of its own that should not be avoided. Normally, the rains come in short, heavy bursts, leaving the rest of the day refreshingly cool and pleasant. Besides, there is more than one reason to look at Ho Chi Minh City at this time of year.
Why Consider the Wet Season?
Fewer Crowds: It’s low season, and fewer tourists are arriving. This also means popular attractions such as the War Remnants Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Jade Emperor Pagoda aren’t as crowded. You might even have the place almost to yourself!
Lower Costs: Fewer tourists translate to great deals awaiting your arrival for hotels, flights, and Ho Chi Minh City Tours. Most of the accommodation places and touring companies have some discounts during the low season, thus enabling you to go further on your travel dollars.
Unique Experiences: This may also be the case when visiting during the wet season. This is a different city, where the lush greenery is at its best, and cooler weather can turn out rather refreshing. Thirdly, you may like it while sitting in some cozy coffee shop, looking at the tropical rainstorm outside-a unique experience!!
What to Keep in Mind:
However, one should also take into consideration that, despite all this, the wet season does bring some inconveniences with it: the heavy rains might flood certain places and make traveling very difficult. It is wise to have flexible plans at this time and to always carry an umbrella or raincoat. But if you are that kind of traveler who likes spontaneity, then this may just be thebest time to visit Ho Chi Minh City!

Most Ho Chi Minh Tours take full advantage of this season’s ideal conditions and offer everything from guided walking tours to boat cruises along the Saigon River.
To enjoy the city most, lightweight breathable clothing either in linen or cotton is recommended. A sports hat with a wide brim, sunglasses, and high SPF sunscreen will save you from the strong rays of the tropical sun. The temperature fluctuates between 28°C and 35°C (82°F-95°F); keeping liquid levels up is key. Bring a water bottle with you and cool down in shady or air-conditioned areas.

This season can be one of the suitable thebest time to visit Ho Chi Minh City if you like to keep yourself away from crowded places and want to take advantage of budget-friendly deals on Ho Chi Minh City Tours.
Continuing your adventure to the wet season can be enjoyable, but you must always be prepared. Carry everything you need-appropriate things like a small umbrella or a thin raincoat, waterproof shoes or sandals, water-resistant bag or backpack to keep belongings dry. You can spend a rainy day visiting museums, art galleries, or shopping malls, or take a cooking class to discover one of the greatest aspects of Vietnamese culture: their food.
Health and Safety Tips
Whichever period you would want to travel, putting in health and safety would make for a successful one, of course. With the dry season, the tropical sun can be very hot. It is always important to put on protective clothes, sunglasses, and broad-spectrum sunscreen. Try to avoid much exposure to direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., with water, fresh coconut juice, or any other drink of your choice to rehydrate the body.
In the wet season, be aware, especially, of flooding in the low areas of the city. Check local forecasts frequently and plan your travel accordingly. Usually, avoid open water and use reliable transportation options, such as a taxi or ride-sharing service. This is much more important in areas that have experienced heavy rainfall lately. Also, apply insect repellants to help avoid mosquito bites, as this is the best time of year for them.
Better observe food and water safety in both seasons. Enjoy the street food in Ho Chi Minh City but select only those vendors who can prepare food hygienically. Go for bottled or filtered water. Stock some essential medicines ready for normal travel sicknesses, and also learn about the nearest medical facilities for better assurance.
Follow these steps, and you will have a presence in Ho Chi Minh City every time you think is the best time. Ready to plunge into the vibrant charm of the city with one of our unforgettable Ho Chi Minh Tours? Your Ho Chi Minh Adventure awaits!

The Reunification Palace: Here on April 30th, 1975 the Vietnam War officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was, at the time the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam.
War Remnants Museum: Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this is a poignant display of the futility of war. Some of the black and white photography in the ‘Requiem’ exhibit is particularly touching, dedicated to both foreign and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who perished during the conflict. The courtyard outside contains the spoils of war, namely rusting jets, tanks and cannons captured from the American military machine.
Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office: Built between 1877 and 1883 this is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. Remarkably every stone used in its creation was shipped from France to Vietnam. Her two 40m towers, topped with iron spires dominate the city’s skyline. The Old Post Office is another example of French colonial architecture and is also the country’s largest post office.
Jade Emperor Pagoda: Building in 1909 in honor of the supreme Taoist god, this is one of the most spectacularly atmospheric temples in HCMC, stuffed with statues of phantasmal divinities and grotesque heroes. The pungent smoke of incense fills the air, obscuring the exquisite woodcarvings.
Cu Chi Tunnels: Watch a short introductory video showing how they were constructed, then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels. Also, on display are various mantraps, the remains of an American tank and numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. For those interested there’s even the opportunity to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range
