Day 1: Hanoi – Nghia Lo – Muong Lo Valley
Leaving Hanoi in the morning with your private guide and driver, you will be travelling west through the changing landscapes of the Red River Delta and the forested foothills of Northern Vietnam. As the road climbs into Yen Bai’s mountainous countryside, enjoy views of tea plantations, rice fields and small rural settlements.
You arrive in Nghia Lo, situated within the beautiful Muong Lo Valley—one of the largest rice-growing valleys in Northwest Vietnam. After lunch and check-in, you begin a gentle cycling excursion or guided village walk through the surrounding countryside. Passing rice paddies, traditional stilt houses and villages inhabited mainly by the Thai ethnic community.
In the afternoon, it provides you an excellent introduction to local life as farmers work in their fields and families continue traditional weaving and agricultural practices. Returning to your accommodation for dinner and a peaceful overnight stay in Nghia Lo.

Day 2: Nghia Lo – Tu Le – Khau Pha Pass – Mu Cang Chai
After having the breakfast, you depart Nghia Lo and follow a spectacular mountain route towards Mu Cang Chai. Stop in Tu Le, a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains and terraced rice fields. Taking a leisurely walk-through a nearby Thai village and, subject to local availability, relax in a natural hot spring.
You will enjoy lunch at local restaurant.
Then, you continue going across the legendary Khau Pha Pass. Rising above the surrounding valleys, the pass offers outstanding panoramas of mountain peaks, winding roads and layered rice fields. Several scenic stops can be made for photography, especially during the green and golden rice seasons.
Arriving in Mu Cang Chai in the late afternoon. You will check in at your homestay or ecolodge and take a short orientation walk through the nearby village before enjoying a home-cooked dinner.

Day 3: Mu Cang Chai Rice Terrace Trek – Che Cu Nha and La Pan Tan
Today is dedicated to one of the journey’s finest trekking experiences. After breakfast, you will transfer to Che Cu Nha Commune, where your trek begins through valleys, mountain paths and spectacular terraced fields.
Follow local trails through H’Mong communities and observe how generations of farmers have shaped the steep terrain into an extraordinary agricultural landscape. Your guide will explain traditional farming methods, seasonal cultivation and the importance of rice production to local families.
Next, you continue traveling towards La Pan Tan, renowned for its sweeping terrace formations and photogenic hilltop viewpoints. Depending on weather and trail conditions, today’s trek covers approximately 10–13 kilometres and can be adjusted to suit your fitness level.
You will enjoy a picnic or local lunch along the route before completing the trek in the afternoon. Return to your accommodation to relax and enjoy dinner.

Day 4: De Xu Phinh – Mu Cang Chai – Sapa
Beginning the morning with breakfast before visiting De Xu Phinh, one of Mu Cang Chai’s most impressive but less frequently visited rice terrace areas. Then, you will take a short trek through the village, enjoying views of cascading fields, forested slopes and traditional H’Mong homes.
You continue traveling towards Sapa via Tan Uyen and Lai Chau. The scenic journey passes tea plantations, mountain valleys and remote highland settlements. Cross O Quy Ho Pass, one of Vietnam’s longest mountain passes, and stop at selected viewpoints when weather conditions permit. A further stop may be made at Silver Waterfall before descending into Sapa.
After enjoying the lunch, you continue visiting to Ta Phin Valley for a gentle walk through a Red Dao community. Learn about local medicinal plants, textile traditions and everyday village life before returning to Sapa. Check in at your hotel and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 5: Sapa – Muong Hoa Valley Trek – Bac Ha
After having the breakfast, you will travel to the Muong Hoa Valley for a rewarding trek through one of Sapa’s most beautiful rural landscapes. Walking from Y Linh Ho towards Lao Chai, following paths between terraced fields, streams and Black H’Mong villages.
Along the way, you will have a chance to observe traditional houses, farming activities and the intricate indigo clothing worn by local residents. Next, you continue to visit Ta Van, home to Giay and other ethnic communities, where lunch is served at a local restaurant or family-run venue.
In the afternoon, you will meet your driver and travel to Bac Ha, a quieter highland district known for colourful markets, plum orchards and diverse ethnic traditions. Check in to your accommodation and enjoy dinner in Bac Ha.

Day 6: Bac Ha Cultural Experience – Hoang Su Phi
Starting the day by discovering Bac Ha’s distinctive highland culture. If the day falls on a Sunday, visit Bac Ha Market, where Flower H’Mong, Tay, Nung, Phu La and other communities gather to trade agricultural produce, textiles, livestock and household goods.
If travelling on another day, the programme may include an alternative regional market, village walk or cultural visit depending on the weekly schedule. This flexible arrangement ensures an authentic local experience without relying solely on one market day.
You will have the lunch at local restaurant. You will travel towards Hoang Su Phi through remote mountain scenery. The road passes isolated villages, forested valleys and terraced hillsides, with stops at selected viewpoints along the way. Near your destination, enjoy a short walk to a peaceful village homestay or ecolodge.
Settling into the tranquil surroundings and enjoy dinner prepared with regional ingredients.

Day 7: Hoang Su Phi Trek – Ban Luoc and Thong Nguyen
After having breakfast, begin a full-day exploration of Hoang Su Phi, a remote district celebrated for some of Northern Vietnam’s most dramatic rice terraces.
You will trek through Ban Luoc or another suitable terrace community selected according to weather and trail conditions. The route winds past cascading fields, bamboo forests, streams and villages inhabited by Dao, Tay, Nung or La Chi communities. During the planting and harvest seasons, the landscape becomes particularly striking, offering exceptional photographic opportunities.
You will enjoy lunch in a local village or at a simple mountain restaurant. In the afternoon, you continue traveling towards Thong Nguyen, walking through peaceful countryside and learning more about highland agriculture and community traditions.
Arriving at your accommodation in the late afternoon and spend the final evening surrounded by Hoang Su Phi’s serene mountain scenery.

Day 8: Hoang Su Phi – Hanoi
Enjoying your final breakfast in the mountains before beginning the return journey to Hanoi. You will travel through the scenic countryside of Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang, with comfort stops arranged along the way.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant during the journey. In the afternoon, you continue traveling towards the Red River Delta as the mountainous landscapes gradually give way to rice fields, towns and Hanoi’s urban surroundings.
Arrive in Hanoi in the late afternoon or early evening. Transfer to your hotel or another agreed location in the city, marking the end of your memorable Mu Cang Chai and Northwest Vietnam adventure.
