Architectural Highlights

Cổng Tam Quan (Triple Gate)

Triple Gate

Triple Gate

The huge building is 5 meters high, made of holy stone, and has a roofing with traditional yin-yang tiles. The gate is supported by four exquisitely sculpted lotus-shaped pillars representing purity and enlightenment. As you move through it, the weight of history and spiritual energy will wash over every step. The Triple Gate is more than just the doorway, it serves as a bridge to peace and spirituality.

Main Shrine and Statues

As you enter the old Shrine, be prepared to encounter only silence mad calmness in its amazing Main shrine. Each of the three sections houses high-up on pedestals of important statues holding religious significance. At the center are the calm Tam The Buddha statues that signify past, present and future Buddhas. On the right stands a shrine to Tam Thanh and Quan Cong, representations of loyalty and comradeship; on the left there is an altar for Dia Tang Bodhisattva, believed by Buddhists to be a savior rescuing dead spirits. The figures are all hand-carved wood capturing the skill and dedication of their artist craftsmen.

Additional Structures

In addition to the main shrine, be sure to look for several other interesting buildings that add even more character Hai Tang Pagoda. The bell tower contains the ancient “Song Long Trieu Duong” bell that belongs to the Le dynasty. And this bell with the dragon ornament has been praying for centuries. Right beside, you will see a small lotus pond with the Bodhisattva in great compassion and serenity smiling at you promising peace. This all combines to make a tranquil space fit for some mindful meditation and introspection.

Starting from the 18th century, a boat containing wood was stuck on Cham Island by the storm. The crew prayed to calm the seas, and a local deity told them to build a temple using timber from the ship as an offering. The storm stopped miraculously and Hai Tang Pagoda came into existence.
