One of the most striking features of District 6 is its architectural style, influenced by the waves of Chinese immigrants who came to call this area home. The pagodas and temples in District 6 are some of the great cultural treasures: carvings in intricately carved woods, bright red-gold facades, and some symbols of Chinese Buddhism. Among the most famous is Tuyen Lam Pagoda, with its ornate altars and statues whose designs attract the eye away from traditional Chinese art combined in work with traditional Vietnamese architectural techniques. Those sites are much more than spiritual, representing the very heart of the Chinese-Vietnamese community and therefore must-see architectural landmarks on Ho Chi Minh Tours.

Residential Areas

A walk through its residential areas shows how traditional Chinese architecture has combined in perfect harmony with colonial French influences to bring about an individualistic style that has come to define the charm of District 6: curved roofs, latticework that enhances the elegance of Chinese design, and balconies along with pastel colors stamping a nostalgic beauty courtesy of the French colonial influence. These areas offer a rare kind of insight into the lives of the Chinese-Vietnamese, if scanned through well to add authenticity to your Ho Chi Minh City Culture Tour.

The Old Post Office is another example of French colonial architecture and is also the country’s largest post office.
  • Jade Emperor Pagoda: Building in 1909 in honor of the supreme Taoist god, this is one of the most spectacularly atmospheric temples in HCMC, stuffed with statues of phantasmal divinities and grotesque heroes. The pungent smoke of incense fills the air, obscuring the exquisite woodcarvings.
  • Cu Chi Tunnels: Watch a short introductory video showing how they were constructed, then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels.
