6:00 AM: A New Adventure Begins!
The day has come for our most verdant Ha Giang Tours explore Hoang Su Phi. We’ll meet nice and early at 6 AM in Hanoi to take a comfortable minivan to Hoang Su Phi. The distance is long, but believe me, every kilometer is live. As we step out of the bustle of city life and into our new sleepy little town, we’ll be driving on curvy mountain roads with the scent of pine and the sound of chirping birds in the air. I promise the views are going to be jaw-dropping, and there’s plenty of time to lean back, kick up your feet, and revel in the stunning beauty of the scenery that is unfolding outside your window.
12:30 PM: Arrival at Vinh Quang Town – Lunch and Local Flavor
We’ll reach Vinh Quang (the heart of Hoang Su Phi) after about six and a half hours of traveling. At around 12:30 PM, we’ll take a well-deserved break for lunch at a local restaurant. Now is a great time to experience the amazing flavors of Ha Giang, where you will enjoy different local dishes such as Thit trau gac bep (smoked buffalo meat) and Com lam (bamboo rice). I’d happily tell stories surrounding the food, and some history around each dish as we share a very hearty meal with the locals.
3:00 PM: Homestay in Ho Thau – Immerse in Dao Traditions
At approximately 3 PM, we will depart by foot to Ho Thau, a beautiful village tucked away in the mountains. Here, you will be invited into a Dao family’s home for a true homestay experience. So let’s pretend you step into the warmth of a wooden house in the cold mountain. It’s all the more memorable with the renowned hospitality of the Dao people, which I’ll help you navigate alongside. During your time with the family, you’ll learn about their customs, drink traditional tea, and possibly even learn the famous Dao herbal bath — a great way to relax and immerse yourself in local culture.
7:00 PM: Traditional Dinner and Evening Stories
By 7 PM, we’ll feast around the dinner table, the family will serve you a delicious meal made with locally sourced ingredients. As we savor the food, I’ll regale you with stories about the Dao traditions and folklore so this dinner will not simply be a meal, but an experience immersed in the heart of the culture. It’s a great way to close the day with warmth after your 1st day in Ha Giang. After dinner, spend some time with fellow travelers, or simply unwind and enjoy the serene mountain evening.

5:30 AM: Early Morning Trek to Chieu Lau Thi
I know it’s early, but believe me, you won’t want to miss out on what’s in store for us at Chieu Lau Thi. The trek will begin at around 5:30 AM when the morning mist is still hovering in low at the mountains, becoming mysteriously enchanting. With each step we take through the lush woods the scenery around us becomes even more spectacular as we gain in height. Pass another few steps to Chieu Lau Thi and you’ll have magnificent 360-degree views over the whole of the Ha Giang region. The clouds cresting around the peaks will give you the sensation of walking into another world — nature runs the show here.
8:00 AM: Breathtaking Views and Cloud Hunting
Having arrived at the peak of Chieu Lau Thi which sits 2402 meters above sea level by 8 AM, you can bask in serenity. This is your chance to shoot photos of the beautiful scenery, search for clouds, and just enjoy the breathtaking views.” This experience is perfect for enthusiasts of nature and photography because the misty clouds float around the mountains and create scenes so magical and ever-changing.
10:00 AM: Visit Coc Pai – A Peaceful Mountain Town
At 10 AM: After going down the mountain, we will move to Coc Pai for a rest. It is a lesser-known town, with tranquil villages and greenery in abundance. We’ll take a short break for you to explore the town, relax your mind in the tranquil atmosphere of this distant area of Ha Giang, and enjoy its rustic beauty.
1:00 PM: Optional Visit to Ban Phung or Suoi Thau
The afternoon will hold one of two views, depending on the season: either stripping terraced rice fields in Ban Phung or rolling hills in Suoi Thau Valley. Both spots provide stunning vistas, and I’ll lead you through the fields, telling you stories about their cultural significance. After lunch, we will make our way back to Bac Ha for a relaxing evening (estimated time at 4 PM).
6:00 PM: Arrive in Bac Ha and Rest
We’ll reach Bac Ha at about 6 PM, and you’ll have an evening to either explore on your own or just relax. Have a pleasant dinner in town, or stroll down the calm streets. This is the ideal moment to relax and reflect on your amazing day.

6:00 AM: Visit Bac Ha Market – A Feast for the Senses
After a peaceful night, we’ll kick off our last day in Bac Ha. By 6 AM, we’ll explore the Bac Ha Market which is a true cultural experience for the colorful morning market. On display here are local ethnic groups: Hmong, Tay, and Dzao trading goods, textiles, and handmade crafts. The atmosphere is alive, and I’ll tell you the stories behind the colorful fabrics, spices, and handicrafts.
9:00 AM: Dinh Hoang A Tuong – A Step Back in Time
The next place we will visit is Dinh Hoang A Tuong. A historical mansion from the period of French colonization. This beautiful building offers an intriguing insight into the region’s history and what it meant for the cultural exchanges that formed Hoang Su Phi. As we walk I’ll share the story behind the building and why it matters to the Ha Giang area.
12:00 PM: Lunch with Local Specialties
By noon we’ll gather for a hearty lunch featuring more local specialties. It’s a meal that will leave you not only with a taste for freshly made Che Shan Tuyet (Shan tea) and savoring mouthfuls that will excite your taste buds just before leaving Bac Ha and heading back to Hanoi.
2:00 PM: Head Back to Hanoi
In the afternoon, we will begin heading back to Hanoi and stop to rest for a short time and we can buy souvenirs or local products, such as ruou ngo (corn wine) and mat ong Bac Ha (mint honey) to bring home.
8:00 PM: Arrival in Hanoi
We are arriving back in Hanoi around 8 PM, before we say our goodbyes, knowing we had an adventure to remember through the center of Ha Giang.
