Detailed Itinerary for Discovering the Ho Chi Minh Food Tours with Back of the Bike Tours
Meet at the Opera House, District 1 (16:30)
Welcome your food adventure to Saigon, starting right in Ho Chi Minh City’s heart, District 1, with Food Paradise of Saigon with Back of Bike Tours at the historic and iconic opera house of Saigon. This building represents French colonialism and is an architectural beauty that symbolizes not only the city but also a perfect starting point for this tour. You will be welcomed by friendly and highly knowledgeable local guides who are well-informed about local food and culture. After a short introduction and safety briefing, you will get on your motorbike to venture off into the Saigon food adventure!
First Stop: Green Papaya Salad at Le Van Tam Park (17:00)
Green Papaya Salad
Your first taste of the street food in Saigon begins in the tranquil surroundings of Le Van Tam Park. The leafy, green surroundings of the park lend a serene backdrop while you savor goi du du bo kho-or, translated as green papaya salad with beef jerky. Its crunch from the papaya, mixed with a tangy dressing and savory beef jerky, makes for a refreshing snack to have on a hot afternoon. This dish, which is a staple Saigon street food, will start your journey very well in the Food Paradise of Saigon.
Second Stop: Banh Khot in District 3 (17:30)
You will make your way next to District 3 to sample one of the most common rice flour, coconut milk, and turmeric street foods, topped with shrimp: banh khot. The crispy mini pancakes are a local favorite, usually eaten wrapped in fresh herbs and dipped in nuoc mam (fish sauce). Compared to its bigger cousin, banh xeo, the banh khot is smaller in size and easier to enjoy in one single bite. It is a combination of textures and flavors, a dish one needs to try on any Ho Chi Minh Tour centered around food.
Third Stop: Crab Noodle Soup at Banh Canh Ghe Muoi Ot Xanh, District 10 (18:15)
Banh Canh Ghe Muoi Ot Xanh
Next head over to District 10 for a delicious bowl of banh canh ghe or the crab noodle soup at this highly-popular local institution. The creation consists of thick tapioca noodles that could almost be too sticky with rich broth and fresh crab which pulls off a great balance of flavors. It is unique in its own right: the chewiness from the noodles, and the freshness of the crab are well-balanced with the salty side-the green peppercorn salt dipping sauce. This stop is one of the highlights of the Food Paradise of Saigon with Back of Bike Tours, showing off the seafood edge of the culinary culture in Saigon.
Fourth Stop: Hu Tieu Sa Te Nai in District 5 (19:00)
Your food journey next heads to District 5, otherwise known as Cho Lon, the city’s Chinatown, where you will taste hu tieu xa te nai a noodle dish with venison in spicy satay sauce. This shows the marriage between Chinese and Vietnamese, making this district a hotbed for food. The tender venison and flavorful sauce not only put a new twist on the more traditionally prepared noodle dishes in Saigon but deepen the dive into the food diversity of that city as well.
Hu Tieu Sa Te Nai
Final Stop: Grilled Bananas with Coconut Milk in District 5 (19:45)
To add a sweet touch to the end of the tour, you will be having grilled banana chuoi nuong wrapped in sticky rice, sprinkled with creamy coconut milk, and drizzled with ground peanuts. This simple dessert showcases one of the most common combinations in Vietnamese food: sweet and salty. Savor this snack while you sit on the small stools in the bustling streets of District 5 and feel immersed in the original street food culture that surrounds the Food Paradise of Saigon.

Day 02
HO CHI MINH CITY TOUR AND CU CHI TUNNELS
Your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel. We will visit the following places of interest:
The Reunification Palace: Here on April 30th, 1975 the Vietnam War officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was, at the time the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam.
War Remnants Museum: Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this is a poignant display of the futility of war. Some of the black and white photography in the ‘Requiem’ exhibit is particularly touching, dedicated to both foreign and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who perished during the conflict. The courtyard outside contains the spoils of war, namely rusting jets, tanks and cannons captured from the American military machine.
Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office: Built between 1877 and 1883 this is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. Remarkably every stone used in its creation was shipped from France to Vietnam. Her two 40m towers, topped with iron spires dominate the city’s skyline. The Old Post Office is another example of French colonial architecture and is also the country’s largest post office.
Jade Emperor Pagoda: Building in 1909 in honor of the supreme Taoist god, this is one of the most spectacularly atmospheric temples in HCMC, stuffed with statues of phantasmal divinities and grotesque heroes. The pungent smoke of incense fills the air, obscuring the exquisite woodcarvings.
Cu Chi Tunnels: Watch a short introductory video showing how they were constructed, then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels. Also, on display are various mantraps, the remains of an American tank and numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. For those interested there’s even the opportunity to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range
