Day 02

Hanoi Cultural and Heritage Discovery

After breakfast at the hotel, you begin a fascinating cultural journey through Hanoi, a city where ancient traditions, French colonial architecture and contemporary life exist side by side.

Driving past historic Ba Dinh Square, where President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam’s independence in 1945. Your guide will explain the importance of the surrounding monuments and government buildings before continuing towards Lenin Park and nearby residential streets.

Walking through a traditional neighbourhood where small family businesses and sewing workshops have operated for generations. These intimate lanes offer an authentic glimpse into everyday Hanoi, away from the city’s busiest tourist areas.

Then, you continue to visit the Temple of Literature, founded in 1070 and regarded as Vietnam’s first national university. Explore its peaceful courtyards, historic pavilions and stone stelae while learning about the country’s Confucian education system.

The next stop is the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, which presents the architecture, clothing, customs and traditional lifestyles of Vietnam’s 54 recognised ethnic groups. This visit provides valuable context before your journey to the White Thai communities of Mai Chau.

You will enjoy lunch at a selected local restaurant before exploring Hanoi’s Old Quarter on foot. Wander through its maze of narrow streets, markets, traditional shops and heritage buildings. You may also visit a preserved local home or enjoy tea with a Hanoian host, subject to availability.

Conclude the afternoon with a traditional water puppet show. Originating in the flooded rice fields of the Red River Delta, this distinctive performance combines music, storytelling and beautifully crafted wooden puppets.

Return to your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Note: The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is normally closed on Mondays. An appropriate alternative will be arranged when necessary.

You will arrive in Mai Chau around midday and enjoy lunch featuring fresh regional ingredients and local specialities. Afterwards, check in at your selected eco-lodge, resort or traditional homestay.
