Tours Itinerary

Day 01

Hanoi – Ha Giang – Tay Village Experience

At approximately 8:00 AM, you will meet our private guide and driver at your hotel in Hanoi. Leaving the energetic capital behind and begin the scenic journey north through the countryside of Tuyen Quang Province towards Ha Giang.

Along the way, observe the changing landscapes as busy towns gradually give way to peaceful farmland, forested hills and northern mountain scenery. Arrive in Ha Giang around midday and continue to a traditional Tay ethnic village, where you will check in at a welcoming local homestay.

Then, you will enjoy lunch prepared by your host family before taking a gentle walk through the village. Traditional stilt houses, rice fields and quiet rural paths offer an inviting introduction to the everyday life of the Tay community. Your guide will help facilitate conversations with local residents and explain their customs, architecture and cultural traditions.

Return to the homestay for a home-cooked dinner and a relaxing evening in the peaceful countryside.

Day 02

Ha Giang – Red Dao Village – Yen Minh

Beginning the morning with breakfast at the homestay before saying goodbye to your Tay hosts. If time and opening conditions permit, visit Ha Giang Museum to learn more about the province’s diverse ethnic communities, history and natural environment.

Next, you continue traveling towards Yen Minh and enter the remarkable landscapes of Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark. The road winds through limestone mountains, terraced fields and remote valleys, offering numerous opportunities for sightseeing and photography.

Stopping for a refreshing walk through a peaceful pine-covered area before visiting a Red Dao village. Meet local residents and gain insight into their distinctive clothing, family traditions and close relationship with the surrounding mountains.

After your lunch at a local restaurant, continue through the highlands to Yen Minh. Arrive in the late afternoon, check in and enjoy some time to relax before dinner.

Day 03

Yen Minh – Lung Cam – Hmong King’s Palace – Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Meo Vac

After breakfast, you will depart Yen Minh at approximately 8:00 AM and continue deeper into the Dong Van Karst Plateau. Today’s route presents some of Ha Giang’s most distinctive scenery, with rugged limestone formations, mountain villages and winding roads stretching across the horizon.

Then, you will visit Lung Cam Cultural Village, home to Hmong families and traditional earthen houses surrounded by seasonal fields and gardens. The village provides a fascinating glimpse into local architecture and highland life.

You continue visiting to the historic Hmong King’s Palace, also known as the Vuong Family Residence. Built with a combination of Hmong, Chinese and French architectural influences, this atmospheric complex tells the story of one of the region’s most influential families.

After lunch, travel through Dong Van town and follow the spectacular mountain road towards Meo Vac. Cross the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, widely considered one of Vietnam’s most beautiful mountain passes. Stop at selected viewpoints to admire the towering cliffs, deep valleys and the Nho Que River winding through the gorge below.

Arrive in Meo Vac in the late afternoon. If time permits, take a short visit to a nearby Hmong village before enjoying dinner.

Day 04

Meo Vac Highland Market – Quan Ba – Lung Tam Weaving Village

You will enjoy breakfast before visiting a colourful highland market in or around Meo Vac. When the itinerary coincides with the traditional Meo Vac Sunday Market, you can experience one of the region’s liveliest cultural gatherings.

Ethnic minority residents travel from surrounding mountain villages to trade livestock, agricultural products, household goods and handmade textiles. Many visitors wear their finest traditional clothing, transforming the market into a vibrant display of colours and local identity. Your guide will explain the market’s social importance and the traditions of the communities that gather here.

Afterwards, you begin the return journey towards Quan Ba, travelling through the dramatic landscapes of the karst plateau. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant along the way.

In the afternoon, visit Lung Tam Village, renowned for its traditional Hmong linen weaving. Meet local craftswomen and learn how hemp fibres are processed, woven, dyed with natural indigo and decorated with intricate patterns. This community-based craft helps preserve Hmong cultural heritage while providing sustainable livelihoods for local families.

Next, you continue traveling to Quan Ba, check in and enjoy dinner at your accommodation.

Day 05

Quan Ba – Ha Giang – Hanoi

After breakfast, leave Quan Ba and begin the full-day drive back to Hanoi. Descend from the highlands while enjoying final views of Ha Giang’s mountains, valleys and rural communities.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant along the route. There will also be suitable comfort stops during the journey.

Arrive at your hotel in Hanoi at approximately 5:00 PM, depending on traffic and road conditions. Your memorable five-day Ha Giang adventure concludes with a private transfer to your selected hotel.

Accommodation Note

Homestay accommodation is normally arranged in a traditional stilt house. Sleeping areas may be shared, with individual mattresses separated by curtains, and bathroom facilities are generally communal. The accommodation is simple, clean and carefully selected for an authentic and comfortable local experience. Private hotel or guesthouse rooms can be arranged on other nights or upgraded upon request.

Important Tour Notes

  • This is a suggested private itinerary and can be adjusted according to your interests, budget and preferred accommodation category.
  • Meo Vac’s principal traditional market usually takes place on Sunday. When the tour dates do not coincide with market day, an alternative local market or cultural experience may be arranged where possible.
  • Ha Giang’s mountain roads include numerous bends and extended driving periods. Travellers who experience motion sickness should prepare appropriate medication.
  • Travel times may change due to weather, traffic and mountain-road conditions.
  • Warm clothing is recommended from late autumn to early spring, as temperatures can be considerably cooler in the highlands.
