Crisp air, blue skies, and lovely rice terrace views in Pu Luong, Mai Chau, and Sapa are perfect for trekking and photography. Summer is hot and steamy, and winter might roll in mist to the mountains (lovely, but cold!).
Pack light clothing for hot days and cool nights, particularly in hilly regions. Good grippy hiking shoes are necessary for walks. Don’t forget to bring insect repellent, a refillable water bottle, an umbrella or poncho for rainy days, and sun protection. To visit temples, bring along a scarf or shawl to cover your shoulders.
Purchase a local Vietnamese SIM card from Viettel or Vinaphone at the airport or in Hanoi. Your signal may be weak in valleys, but in most resorts Wi-Fi is available.
