Start with Wat Sisaket, the oldest surviving temple in the city, renowned for its cloisters filled with thousands of miniature Buddha images. Continue to Wat Ho Phra Keo, once the royal temple, before heading to the sacred That Luang Stupa, Laos’ most revered national monument. En route, stop at the elegant Patuxay Monument, often referred to as the Arc de Triomphe of Vientiane, a striking symbol of the city.

In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at one of the city’s fine restaurants before returning to your hotel.

Day 2. Vientiane – Luang Prabang (Express Train C82: 07:30 – 09:30)

After an early breakfast, transfer to the station and board the modern express train for a scenic two-hour journey through lush landscapes to Luang Prabang, the former royal capital and UNESCO World Heritage city. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by our guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in.

In the afternoon, begin your exploration with a visit to the Royal Palace National Museum, once the residence of the Lao monarchy. Its collection of religious treasures, gifts from foreign dignitaries, and royal artifacts offers a fascinating insight into the country’s history and culture. Continue to Wat Sene, the oldest temple in the city, followed by the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong, famed for its sweeping roofs and the glittering “Tree of Life” mosaic in colored glass.

Next, stop at the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre, dedicated to preserving and presenting the diverse lifestyles, handicrafts, and traditions of Laos’ many ethnic groups. Later, climb the 328 steps to the top of Mount Phousi to admire the sacred golden stupa and enjoy a spectacular sunset view over the city and the Mekong River.

As night falls, wander through the vibrant Luang Prabang Night Market, where stalls brim with hand-woven textiles, silverware, and souvenirs crafted by local and hill-tribe artisans. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

On the way, stop at Ban Muangkeo, where locals produce the famous Lao rice wine (lao lao), and visit Ban Xiengmene, a traditional riverside settlement. If time allows, climb up to Wat Chomphet, a quiet temple offering one of the finest panoramic views across the river towards Luang Prabang’s old quarter.

Returning to the city, continue by road to the handicraft villages of Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xieng Lek, where generations of artisans are known for silk weaving and the delicate production of handmade saa paper from mulberry bark. Next, stop at the Laos Buffalo Dairy Farm, a pioneering social enterprise. During a 40-minute guided tour, you can experience buffalo feeding and washing, observe a milking demonstration, and even meet playful chickens and rabbits. This visit supports local farmers and gives you a taste of innovative community development in Laos.
