How to get there?
- Plane: For tourists in the North like Hanoi, especially traveling with young children, you should take a plane with a lot of flight hours and airlines for you to choose freely. Ticket prices range from 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 VND/way.
- Bus: For tourists who want to save money, the bus will be the most suitable choice. Ticket prices range from 200,000 – 300,000 VND/person, for neighboring provinces of Saigon.
- Motorbike: The road to Vinh Nghiem pagoda is quite convenient and beautiful. So you can also choose a motorbike to be more active for the trip. That is also the reason many young people have chosen the temple as a tourist destination in Saigon to check in and visit every weekend.
History of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda:
After going on pilgrimage from the North to the South to spread Buddhism, two monks, Thich Tam Giac and Thich Thanh Kiem, built Vinh Nghiem pagoda. The pagoda was modeled after the pagoda of the same name in Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province. The drawing of the pagoda was made by architect Nguyen Ba Lang.
At the time of construction of the pagoda, people had to transport more than 40,000 m2 of land from Bien Hoa to level the ground, because the pagoda was located in a lowland area. The cost to build the temple is about 98 million VND contributed by Buddhists. By 1971, the pagoda had completed a number of items such as a central building, Quan The Am stupa, facilities for social activities…
Triple gate:
Tam Quan Gate was built quite superficially and massively, with a curved red roof design like other traditional temples. On both sides of the temple gate are two delicately carved couplets, above which are the words “Vinh Nghiem Pagoda" full of solemnity.
Temple grounds:
The temple has a rather large campus. The indoor area of the campus is where the Bodhidharma ancestral church is built. In addition, it is also a place used to teach Buddhism and is also the office and library of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda.
Central Building:
The central building of the pagoda consists of a ground floor and a first floor. In particular, the ground floor includes: the outer part is below the terrace, 3.2m high and the inner part is under the Buddha hall, 4.2m high. The space of the ground floor is also divided into many areas such as an ancestral church, lecture hall, library…
In front of the central building is a massive statue of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. The terrace includes the Buddha hall and the Avalokitesvara Tower. Basically, the pagoda is built in an architectural style quite similar to the traditional temples of the North.
Vinh Nghiem stone tower:
Vinh Nghiem stone tower is located on the right from Tam Quan gate. The stone tower was built in 2013 to commemorate the two people who built the temple. This is the largest stone tower in Vietnam with a height of up to 14m.
