Vietnam Package Tours in Summer: Weather Guide & Travel Tips
Prepare to welcome the lively spirit of Summer in Vietnam – a colorful and vigorous season filled with unforgettable moments. Whether it’s the cool hills of Da Lat, the sunny beaches of Da Nang and Nha Trang, or anywhere else in Vietnam, there’s never a better time to find out what you’re missing: Vietnam’s rich culture, fresh tropical fruits, and beautiful tropical landscapes. Yes, summer means heat and random rain, particularly in southern Vietnam and along the central coast, but with a little bit of planning, it really is a good time to visit Vietnam. Want to know how hot it gets? Don’t miss our ultimate guide to July weather in Vietnam. Jump to a season when plenty is happening in every region and the whole country is buzzing – welcome to Vietnam in Summer!
May through August are the hottest months of the year in Vietnam, when the sun is at its brightest and the humidity is at its highest; sudden afternoon showers are common due to the heat. But don’t let that stop you! Here’s what you can expect in each region:
It’s hot and rainy in northern Vietnam (think Sapa, Hanoi), but the land becomes saturated with lush greenery.
Central Vietnam (especially Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang) experiences clear blue skies and great beach weather in early summer.
Southern Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, is hot and humid, with short tropical rains, weather conducive to exploring markets, rivers, and gardens.
It’s very hot with daytime temperatures between 29°C and 38°C – including in Hoi An, and July is one of the hottest months. Read our full guide to July weather in Vietnam.
This is high season for Vietnamese families (the kids are off from school), but international tourists are scarce, so you’ll find better rates and less crowded spots midweek.

Regional Weather Breakdown: North vs. Central vs. South
Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Sapa, Ha Giang, Ninh Binh)
You’re in northern Vietnam, where summer means hot, sticky days and late-afternoon monsoon showers ideal for misting the mountains and valleys. The temperature ranges from 30°C to 35°C in mean temperature, but the mountainous areas like Sapa or Ha Giang will be cooler at 18 – 25°C.
It is peak season for hiking, culture-based travel, and nature photography. Soft morning mists hang in the hills, local markets are in full swing, and rice terraces are glowing in their spring green. Whether trekking in Ninh Binh or touring cultural heritage sites in Hanoi, Summer in Vietnam showcases the north in all of its drama and activity.

Central Vietnam (Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Quy Nhon)
Traveling south to central Vietnam, hot (and we mean that in the best possible way) things start to happen. Between May and July (when the weather is dry, sunny, and beach-ready throughout Da Nang, Hoi An, and Nha Trang), all tourists in Vietnam seem to have the same idea: Get to My Khe beach in Da Nang, or one of its more magnificent seaside neighbors. It’s a dream for beach bums and water-sports fanatics alike. Down the coast a bit, the beaches are warm and the skies are clear, and the resorts are humming with summer action.
By late August, it’s wise, though, to be on the lookout for potential typhoons. But not to worry, most visitors find that with some planning, it’s still a good time to visit Vietnam. Take an evening stroll to the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An Ancient Town, chill out on the shore in Quy Nhon, or discover royal relics in Hue all beneath the golden light of summer.

Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc)
Southern VietnamSummer in Vietnam is a time of tropical rains and steamy sunshine, and it is a veritable jungle paradise in southern Vietnam. There will be brief and intense showers in the afternoons and hot, humid mornings with temperatures ranging from 28°C and 34°C, the Met Service said.
But don’t be fooled by the rain, for those willing to look, southern Vietnam is still rich with color and culture. The rivers of the Mekong Delta teem with life, floating markets are piled high with tropical fruits, and street food in Ho Chi Minh City is at its savoury best. And, yes, the rain often passes in a matter of minutes, with the skies turning blue again by the time the sun sets.

Best Places to Visit in Vietnam During Summer
For Cool Escapes & Mountains
Escape the heat and visit the peaceful side in a highland haven in northern Vietnam, where the cool weather in summer is a respite, there are terraced fields, and locals offer a warm welcome.
Sapa: Best known for its spectacular rice terraces, cold climate, 18-25°C, and trekking paths. Trek through Lao Chai, Ta Van, and Cat Cat Village, and stay in ethnic homestays to experience H’mong and Dao traditions.
Ha Giang: Paradise for bikers, the Ha Giang Loop is an elongated loop of severe peaks, stony plateaus, and untamed minority villages. July is in full peacock-display greenery, wonderful for photographs and authentic experiences.
Pu Luong: Quieter than Sapa, this reserve has peaceful trails and bamboo waterwheels, along with stilt houses. You could trek to Hieu Village or bathe in jungle streams.
Mu Cang Chai: Enjoy this area between late June and the July season of pouring water, when the terraced paddies flash like mirrors at the crack of dawn.
Cao Bang: Explore the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfall and Nguom Ngao Cave, featuring imposing limestone scenery and pristine rivers.

For Coastal Getaways & Beaches
Ready to unwind by the sea? Vietnam’s central coast and southern islands get the sun in early summer and then some, if you like, with waves and water sports aplenty.
Da Nang: These summer days, with My Khe Beach, are ranked among the best in the world. Parasail, trek to Ba Na Hills, and dine on seafood BBQ at night.
Nha Trang: Snorkel coral reefs at Hon Mun, take a cable car to VinWonders Nha Trang, or dive in turquoise waters. At more than 300 days of sunshine per year, this is beach heaven!
Mui Ne: Known for red and white dunes, sunrise jeep tours, and kite surfing. Don’t forget to stop for fresh dragon fruit from the surrounding farms!
An Bang Beach: A low-key beach only 4km from Hoi An Ancient Town for swimming, paddle boarding, and enjoying glasses of lemongrass iced tea.
Phu Quoc: Rains may arrive in mid-summer, but it’s not too late to swim in Sao Beach, kayak at Rach Vem, and check out local pepper farms and convenient night markets.

For Culture & Heritage
Summer in Vietnam also means the awakening of ancient cities, temples, and local customs that will pulsate with color and historical resonance.
Hoi An: Stroll the lantern-lit streets, get a custom-fitted ao dai, and join the Full Moon Lantern Festival, which takes place monthly. Cua Dai Beach is a great quiet getaway.
Hue: Enter into imperial history with the Citadel, discover the ancient royal tombs, and taste Bun bo Hue in the city that defined it!
Hanoi: The capital is a mix of the old and new. Take a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, explore the Temple of Literature, and drink egg coffee in secret cafés. Take cover from the midday sun in museums or puppet theaters.
Ninh Binh: Also known as “Halong Bay on land,” tours include boat rides through Trang An, hikes to Mua Cave, and visits to Bai Dinh Pagoda. A cultural and natural jewel in one!

For Nature Lovers
Looking for some wild, less-touched beauty? These destinations are full of caves, rivers, wetlands, and eco-treasures hidden from the outside world.
Phong Nha - Ke Bang (Home to Son Doong – the world’s largest cave!) For something easier to traverse, visit Paradise Cave, go for a kayak on the Chay River, or swim in Mooc Spring.
Ban Gioc Waterfall: Vietnam’s answer to the world’s most beautiful waterfall (shared with China’s border). Surrounded by rice fields and high limestone.
Tra Su Cajuput Forest (An Giang): Cruise along emerald green channels and bird sanctuaries. This is the optimal time of the year for a boat tour amid blooming lotus flowers.
Mekong Delta: Sample tropical fruit straight from the orchards of Ben Tre, drift down the river past Cai Rang’s colourful floating market, or pedal along peaceful village roads in Vinh Long.

Tips for Beating the Heat & Rain
Start Early or Travel After the Rain
Early morning is the finest time to wander during Summer in Vietnam, after a rain. Begin the day at 6-7 AM – the light is beautiful, the air is cooler, and the markets are beginning to come to life. The temperature drops a bit after a midday shower (it’s usually only a light rain down South), offering a cooler air for sightseeing (eg, Hoi An Ancient Town or the street of Ho Chi Minh City).
Choose Hotels with AC or Pools
This may sound like a no-brainer, but comfort is key. Look for places with air conditioning, ceiling fans, or a cool swimming pool, particularly in destinations like Da Nang, Nha Trang, or Phu Quoc, where tropical heat peaks in summer. If you plan on basking along the central coast at a boutique hotel or resort for the day, many will pack your cooler with a delectable midday dip when the waves are rolling in and the sun is shining to conserve energy for the sunset sesh.

Plan Cool Escapes: Mountains or Indoor Fun
If the heat of the coast is too much, there’s cool mountain air in places like Da Lat, Sapa, or Ba Na Hills (near Da Nang). You can also investigate indoor stops: art museums in Hanoi, shopping malls in Ho Chi Minh City, or a cooking class in Hue.
Use Weather Apps & Stay Flexible
Weather in Summer in Vietnam: Things can go wrong very quickly! Get weather apps you can trust, like Windy or AccuWeather. These instruments let you bypass storms and target the best times to go outside. If a tropical shower comes in fast, grab a coffee, wait 30 minutes, and go back out.

Don’t Skip Travel Insurance
Though most summer squalls pass quickly, typhoons can hit central Vietnam, especially in late July or August. It’s a smart idea to have travel insurance that includes weather-related delays or cancellations, particularly if you are hopping between islands such as Phu Quoc or coastal cities during peak season.
Packing Checklist for Vietnam Summer
Lightweight, Breathable Clothing
Include linen or cotton shirts, tank tops, and breezy dresses in your packing list. The weather is hot and muggy throughout much of Vietnam during the summer, especially in the south and on the central coast. Specifically, lightweight fabrics help keep you dry and sun-protected during those long walking tours or bike rides through rice fields.
Reusable Water Bottle & Electrolytes
With the central Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City heat wave, hydration is key. A reusable water bottle benefits your wallet and the planet. Don’t forget your electrolyte tablets or powder, you’ll need them after hikes in Sapa, market strolls, and water sports sessions in Da Nang.
High-SPF Reef-Safe Sunscreen
And the sun doesn’t play during peak season! Cover up with reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and protect your skin as well as Vietnam’s marine life. Key for island hopping off Phu Quoc or a snorkeling session near Nha Trang.
Mosquito Repellent with DEET
It could be as simple as eating on the street in Hue or overnighting in the jungle at a homestay, or hiking the forested trails of Pu Luong, but do not leave home without a decent mosquito repellent. Summer brings rainy days and perfect conditions for bugs. Make sure you are ready!
Swimwear, Sandals & Compact Rain Poncho
More than likely, you’ll be swimming in South Vietnam, showering under a waterfall in Da Lat, or lazing by the beach in Mui Ne. Still, in July (and in string bikini season), Mother Nature can interrupt with a soaking, and quick-drying footwear and a summery rain poncho will be key. Which reminds me, you want to see how wet it gets? Read our complete July weather in Vietnam guide here!
Umbrella & Dry Bag for Electronics
Don’t get caught in a tropical downpour that takes out your phone, camera, or passport. A small umbrella will come in handy for quick shade or in case of rain, and a dry bag is perfect for keeping your valuables safe during boat rides on the Mekong Delta or in caves at Phong Nha. Conclusion
Conclusion
If Summer in Vietnam implies heat, as is occasionally the rain, it also offers rich culture, lively festivals, fewer international crowds, and stunning scenery: from the beaches of Da Nang to the green highlands of northern Vietnam. With smart planning, now can be a really good time to visit Vietnam. Want to know which is the hottest month? As for weather, don’t miss our july weather in Vietnam guide.
