Nha Trang to Con Dao Island Discovery: 5 Days

Upon arrival at Cam Ranh International Airport, Nha Trang railway station, or your designated hotel, you will meet our local guide and transfer to the city centre.

Beginning your discovery at Long Son Pagoda, one of Nha Trang’s most respected Buddhist sites. You will walk through its peaceful grounds and, if you wish, climb the hillside steps to see the enormous white Buddha overlooking the city.

Next, you will continue to visit the Po Nagar Cham Towers, an ancient religious complex built by the Cham civilisation. Located on a hill near the mouth of the Cai River, the towers remain an active place of worship and provide a fascinating introduction to the spiritual and architectural heritage of central Vietnam.

The journey continues to Hon Chong Promontory, where massive granite formations stretch towards the sea. From here, you will enjoy panoramic views across Nha Trang Bay, the surrounding islands, and the city’s northern coastline.

Then, depending on your arrival time, you may also visit Nha Trang Cathedral or explore a local market before checking in at your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for walking along Tran Phu Beach, sampling seafood, or experiencing the city’s evening atmosphere.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will check out and transfer to Cam Ranh International Airport for your journey to Con Dao.

As nonstop flights between Nha Trang and Con Dao are not normally available, the journey is expected to include a connection through Ho Chi Minh City. Flight schedules and transit times will be confirmed according to the departure date.

Upon arrival at Con Dao Airport, you will meet our island guide and travel along the scenic coastal road towards Con Son Town. On the way, stop at selected viewpoints such as:

• Co Ong Village, associated with Prince Cai, the son of Lady Phi Yen.
• Lo Voi Beach, a quiet stretch of coastline near the town.
• Coastal viewpoints overlooking Con Son Bay and the island’s forested mountains.

After checking in, you will enjoy free time to rest or walk around the peaceful town centre. In the late afternoon, our guide may take you to Pier 914, named in remembrance of prisoners believed to have died during its construction. Today, the pier offers beautiful views over Con Son Bay while retaining profound historical significance.

Finishing the day with a gentle stroll through the local market or along the seafront.

Overnight in Con Dao.

In the morning, you will enjoy breakfast before beginning a comprehensive exploration of Con Dao’s historical legacy.

Your first visit is Con Dao Museum, where documents, photographs, archaeological objects. And personal belongings introduce the island’s development and its history as a place of imprisonment.

Next, you will continue to visit the Governor’s Palace, formerly the administrative residence of successive island governors. Its exhibits provide a contrasting perspective on the lives of colonial administrators and imprisoned Vietnamese revolutionaries.

The historical journey proceeds to:

• Phu Hai Prison, one of the oldest prisons in the Con Dao complex.
• French Tiger Cages, notorious detention cells concealed from public view for many years.
• Selected prison compounds and memorial areas, depending on opening conditions.

These locations provide an emotional insight into the suffering, endurance, and determination of generations of political prisoners.

Later, you will visit Hang Duong Cemetery, the resting place of thousands of prisoners and national figures. Paying respects at the memorial dedicated to Vo Thi Sau, a young resistance fighter remembered for her courage.

Afterward, you will continue to visit Phi Yen Temple, also known as An Son Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lady Phi Yen and is surrounded by local legends connected to the island’s early history.

End the sightseeing programme at Van Son Pagoda, often called Nui Mot Pagoda. From its elevated location, you will admire peaceful views over An Hai Lake, Con Son Town, the mountains, and the sea.

Return to your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Overnight in Con Dao.

After having breakfast, you will set out to discover Con Dao’s southern coastline and natural landscapes.

Then, traveling along the coastal road to Shark Cape, a dramatic headland offering sweeping sea views. You will continue traveling towards Nhat Beach, one of the island’s most picturesque beaches. The beach becomes particularly beautiful when the tide recedes, revealing a broad strip of soft sand beside clear turquoise water.

Next, you will stop beneath Love Peak, whose mountain silhouette is traditionally said to resemble a couple embracing. Depending on the tide and weather, you will enjoy time for swimming, beach walking, or photography.

Afterward, you will continue to visit Ben Dam Port, the island’s principal harbour, surrounded by protected waters and forested hills. Along the route, you’ll admire remote coves, offshore islets, and the rugged scenery of Con Dao National Park.

In the afternoon, choose between two experiences:

Option 1 – Beach and Leisure

Return to the hotel and enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the beach, resort pool, or town centre.

Option 2 – Optional Island and Snorkelling Excursion

Join a weather-dependent boat trip to one of the nearby islands for swimming and snorkelling. Possible destinations may include Bay Canh Island, Tai Island, or another site selected according to sea conditions and national park regulations.

Con Dao is also known for its sea turtle conservation activities. Turtle nesting and hatchling-release experiences are strictly seasonal, generally associated with the nesting period, and cannot be guaranteed. Any visit must follow national park rules and be arranged through an authorised operator.

Finishing the day, you will return to the hotel after the excursion and enjoy your final evening on the island.

You will enjoy your final breakfast in Con Dao. Depending on the departure time, relax at the hotel, take a last walk along the beach, or visit Con Dao Market to purchase local products and souvenirs.

Then, you may also spend the morning enjoying a Vietnamese coffee while appreciating the island’s slow pace and peaceful surroundings.

At the appointed time, checking out and transferring to Con Dao Airport for your onward flight. The tour concludes at the airport.
