In December 2019, Mu Cang Chai terraced fields were recognized as a special national monument. In 2021, the New Rice Celebration of the Mong people here continued to be recognized as an intangible cultural heritage.
After two years (December 23, 2023), the art of Mong panpipes and the art of using beeswax to create patterns on fabric of the Mong people in Mu Cang Chai district continued to be recognized as national intangible cultural heritage. Thus, the hard-working Mong people of Mu have contributed to the world three valuable cultural heritages.
Mu Cang Chai terraced fields cover an area of about 2,200 hectares in Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province. In 2007, 330 hectares of terraced fields in the three communes of La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha, and De Xu Phinh were ranked as National Monuments by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and in 2019, Mu Cang Chai terraced fields were ranked as a Special National Monument by the Prime Minister.
