History and Development of Danang Airport

Danang Airport was built in 1940 by French colonialists and was mainly used for military purposes. It was then known as Tourane Airport and played an important role in several wars, including the Second Indochina War. However, a new chapter began when that war ended and Vietnam was united in later years.

The tremendous change occurred at Danang Airport to change it from a military base to a civilian airport. The 1980s and 1990s were times of growing and reconfiguring in a big way to reflect the growing role of Da Nang in the transit center. The scope of these developments was not just to grow capacity but also to enhance notability in passenger experience and operational efficiency.

Danang Airport has achieved phenomenal international stature in the recent past, marking a series of strides and the pursuit of excellence in service delivery. The major completed project was the launch of a new terminal, Terminal 2, in May 2017, for the sole service of international flights. Terminal 2 is a modern installation that has, over and above anything else, increased the capacity of the airport to millions of passengers, being served with efficiency. The greatest honor came in the year 2019 when Danang Airport received a 3-star ranking from Skytrax, while Terminal 2 itself was awarded a 4-star ranking due to the world-class facilities and customer service it provided.

Infrastructure at Danang Airport

Indeed, Danang Airport is designed in a modern and very functional design meant to help it handle both the volume and variety of traffic. It has two parallel runways, namely 17L/35R and 17R/35L. These are state-of-the-art aviation technology runways, enabled in signaling and weather systems, making the operation safe and smooth in all weather types.

There are two operating core terminals in action that form the base of lifeblood for the airport: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is for domestic flights, and it is 36,600 square meters with 52 check-in counters and 11 gates to board passengers, not forgetting an advanced baggage handling system. Terminal 2 is larger in size, standing at 48,000 square meters for international travel. It is fully enhanced by 10 international gates and 39 check-in counters and complemented by 4 luxurious passenger boarding bridges to support a seamless flow of up to 6 million passengers per year.

The service at both terminals is improved for passengers with a lot of amenities: free Wi-Fi, ample space for dining and shopping, and various lounges provided to the passengers for business and leisurely needs. Some of the technological improvements include e-gate systems to improve upon faster security checks and a strong system of CCTV surveillance to ensure maximum safety and efficient handling of the passengers.

Arriving at Danang Airport: What to Expect

The arrival process at Danang Airport is well-managed and carried out effectively. Each procedure from the runway to the baggage claim is highly simplified. It is then followed by an easy process while dealing with customs. There are signs and instructions that are easy to follow, showing you the checks you need to pass through. After you’ve picked up your luggage, you then have access to international and domestic traveler-friendly services.

For those requiring some local money, there are currency exchange counters with good rates. Those who need a SIM card to stay connected have several kiosks to sell the various packages most suitable for the varied data needs and budgets. There are many tourist help desks across terminals, full of information about Danang tours and local attractions so that new arrivals can plan their better stay right from the airport.

Navigating Danang Airport is made easy by its thoughtful design and the abundance of signage. Frequent travelers commend the airport for its user-friendly layout and the wide variety of services aimed at helping transit from air to land be as smooth as possible.

For those looking for more affordable options, there are several bus routes that connect Danang Airport to major points within the city and beyond.
